11th Asia Pacific Congress on Deafness

Target Audience: ENT surgeons, Audiologists, Speech Language Therapists, Deaf Educators.
The 11th Asia Pacific Congress on Deafness 2012 will he held 26-28 July 2012 (www.apcd2012.com) for the first time in Singapore. This 11th APCD 2012 will be held in conjunction with the 6th National University Singapore – National University Hospital ENT Conference.
The theme will be "Changing Perceptions, Increasing Effectiveness, Embracing Advocacy". We are engaging multi-organizational professionals and the community to collectively work towards:
(1) Changing negative perceptions and stereotypes which deter individuals from seeking professional help and integrating more fully into the community (2) Addressing current challenges and setting future directions to increase the effectiveness of medical-surgical, audiological and educational services (3) Engaging policy makers, encouraging advocacy and ensuring community support for the community with hearing impairment.
We are planning for over 600 attendees from the Asia Pacific region mainly and renowned faculty worldwide. We warmly invite participation from all professionals and industry partners with an interest in Deafness and hearing-related disorders. This congress will include focuses that are often under-addressed. The tsunami of elderly hearing loss in our rapidly graying populations worldwide. Noise-induced deafness, Auditory Processing Disorders in both children and adults, Vestibular Balance Disorders and Tinnitus. Whilst celebrating the rapid advances in hearing devices and hearing implants, we want to practice evidence-based and cost-effective medicine. Technology to improve the listening environments in public and private spaces can be improved. Education and rehabilitation therapy must be individualized yet comprehensive, and adapt to advances in treatments and local challenges.
More professionals need to be trained to cope with the burgeoning demand. In collaboration, governmental, non-governmental organizations and individuals can improve the care for families and patients in schools, workplaces and at home. Working closely together with policy makers, we can integrate and improve the overall quality of hearing healthcare.
The congress is intended to be a forum for us all to meet up again, exchange ideas and initiate future collaborations. The social and public awareness events will be fruitful and enjoyable.
