Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications Conference on Mathematics of Medical Devices and Surgical Procedures

Monday 17 - Wednesday 19 September 2012 University College London United Kingdom

Mathematics is playing an ever increasing role in the area of health and medicine, through the use of modelling, statistics, and virtual simulations. These mathematical tools are becoming invaluable in testing the feasibility of surgical procedures and medical devices prior to clinical trials. Furthermore, there is a very realistic possibility over the next twenty years that computer models coupled to patient-specific imaging will be used in real time in the clinical environment to directly advise on treatment strategies. The aim of this conference is to bring together the diverse community of mathematicians, engineers, physicists, clinicians involved in using applied sciences and mathematics to develop and use medical devices to discuss both the latest research and the needs of the clinical community and patients.

The topics that will be discussed will broadly include cardiovascular devices, medical imaging, ophthalmology, cell biology, disease transmission, orthopaedic, advanced simulations, as well as health in ageing. The conference programme will include keynote speakers drawn from both clinical and mathematical communities, along with contributed presentations and poster sessions. The programme will also include breakout sessions in certain topics as well as refreshment breaks for informal discussions. Social events include a drinks reception and a conference dinner.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Bioengineering Conference

Thursday September 20 through Saturday September 22, 2012 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The meeting will provide a unique opportunity for bioengineers, clinicians and scientists to discuss the challenges presented by temporomandibular joint disorders, and to devise strategies to address those challenges.

Objectives

The overall meeting objective is to organize a scientific conference exclusively dedicated to the TMJ, and to advance the field of TMJ research and strengthen the continuity among clinicians, scientists and bioengineers in this pursuit.

This overall objective will be addressed by the following specific objectives:

Provide recommendations to the NIDCR TMJD Program on novel scientific approaches and critical research topics that will advance the field.
Establish a benchmark for current treatments and scientific knowledge.
Bring outside perspective from experts in areas pertinent to TMJ research.

You Should Attend If…

You are not currently in TMJ research, but are looking for new and relatively unexplored funding areas where you can apply your research strengths.
You are currently a TMJ researcher and want to keep up with the latest advances in the field.
You are looking for collaborators in TMJ research.
You are a bioengineer, and want to know the practical needs of surgeons and patients.
You are a clinician, and want to understand the capabilities of the engineering community.

3rd International Conference and Exhibition on 3D Body Scanning Technologies

16-17 October, 2012 Lugano, Switzerland

The 3rd International Conference and Exhibition on 3D Body Scanning Technologies will take place during two days on 16-17 October at the same venue in Lugano, Switzerland as the previous two events.

This conference and its parallel exhibition aim to fulfill the demand for an international event focused on 3D human body scanning technologies, 3D human body measurement methods and applications. This event is the world leading technical platform dedicated to these specific fields.

In the last two decades, 3D scanning technologies developed in other industrial sectors were successfully applied to the measurement and scanning of the human body. Methods and techniques are continuously ameliorated, more efficient and performing scanning systems are produced every year and new software tools are developed unceasingly.

The international conference and exhibition on 3D body scanning technologies serves as a platform for the information on the latest developments and interesting applications in various sectors, as well as, for building relationships and exchanging ideas between manufacturers, users, developers and researchers from around the world.

The conference is organized by Hometrica Consulting, Zurich/Ascona, Switzerland.
