Key Advances in Stroke Rehabilitation

12th June 2013 London, United Kingdom

Stroke is the single greatest cause of disability in most Western countries. It is a complex condition and there is a continuing need for further education on evidence-based rehabilitation practice and research developments. Professionals need to be up-to-date with the constant advances in the understanding of the condition, assessment and intervention techniques. There is also a need to look at interventions beyond the acute stages and how to support active participation in the longer term post stroke.

This one-day exciting and accredited conference is aiming to provide the latest key advances in stroke rehabilitation incorporating state of the programmes and techniques that may be used by professionals who are involved in the management and rehabilitation of patients at different stages after stroke.

This conference focuses on providing participants with information on the current understanding of modern rehabilitation therapies in stroke and their effects on activity and participation. Special emphasis will be given to therapies which are person centered and can be used by an interdisciplinary team to deliver effective rehabilitation for the person and their families.

It will be demonstrated how evidence-based interventions can improve stroke functionality, reduce re-admission, and optimize healthcare utilization. Furthermore it will provide insights into the psychological management of stroke.

The expert panel includes clinicians, researchers and scientists in the field of neurology, occupational therapy, nursing, physiotherapy, psychology; and speech and language.

This conference will provide delegates across the world with the unique opportunity to update their knowledge and challenge their thinking on a wide range of topics in stroke rehabilitation.

"Inclusive Society: Health & Well being in Ageing-friendly Community, – eHealth, Telemedicine, Chronic Disease Management & Care at Home"

19 - 21 June 2013 Singapore

After ten very successful conferences held in France (2003), Singapore (2004), Canada (2005), Northern Ireland (2006), Japan (2007), USA (2008), France (2009), Korea (2010), Canada (2011) and Italy (2012), the 11th International Conference on Smart homes and health Telematics will be hosted for the second time in Singapore, from 19 to 21 June 2013.

Singapore, which already hosted ICOST in 2004, is fast becoming an international hub in ICT for health. ICOST 2013 will involve key experts from more than 15 countries worldwide.

ICOST is considered as a premier venue for the presentation and discussion of research in the design, development, deployment and evaluation of Smart Environments, Assistive Technologies and Health Telematics systems. ICOST brings together stakeholders from clinical, academic and industrial perspectives and along with end users and their family carers explore how Smart Homes and Health Telematics can foster independent living and offer an enhanced quality of life. ICOST 2013 invites participants to present and discuss their experiences in the design, development, deployment and evaluation that demonstrate significant contributions in the areas of smart homes, health telematics and assistive technologies. ICOST 2013 will provide a dynamic program which will incorporate a range of technical, clinical and industrial related keynote speakers, oral and poster presentations along with demonstrations and technical exhibits. We look forward to welcoming you to ICOST2013 in Singapore!

2nd International Workshop on Speech and Multimodal Interaction in Assistive Environments (SMIAE 2013)

The 2nd International Workshop on Speech and Multimodal Interaction in Assistive Environments (SMIAE 2013) will be held on June, 13th/14th at the 2013 Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics: Human Language Technologies (NAACL HLT 2013), on June 9th - 14th, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

SMIAE is sponsored by the ACL Special Interest Group on Speech and Language Processing for Assistive Technologies (SIG-SLPAT)

In recent years considerable progress has been made in speech processing and interaction as well as in multimodality. However, the application field of Assistive Environments has only recently become a focus for the speech and multimodality research community.

The SMIAE 2013 workshop will focus on all issues, applications, and development of various tools in the field of Speech and Multimodal Interaction in Assistive Environments. It will be concerned with all topics which fit within the purview of speech and multimodal communication in environments suitable for the elderly and people with physical or cognitive disabilities. Assistive environments are an application area of the research field of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). This research field promotes intelligent assistant systems for a better, healthier, and safer life in the preferred living environments through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Human-computer and human-robot interaction are key technological tools in the area of Assistive Environments, and as such the workshop will particularly aim to draw together speech and multimodal work in these areas. Moreover, both theoretical and applied computational work regarding multimodal interaction in assistive environments will be welcome at this workshop.
