3rd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity

3rd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity

July 9-12, 2012 Québec City, Québec, Canada

The 3rd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity (ICAO 2012) is a highly anticipated event that will build on the success of last year’s Congress, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Congress’s primary objective is to bring together medical professionals from all specialties to exchange ideas and information and raise awareness of abdominal obesity as a new modifiable risk factor which, along with traditional risk factors, plays a central role in this new concept of global cardiometabolic risk.

This relatively new Congress’s innovative multidisciplinary approach has facilitated the development of a new medical paradigm, whereby complications as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are no longer evaluated and treated in isolation.

We look forward to seeing you in Québec City, Québec, Canada, for what promises to be an exciting and cutting edge gathering of medical professionals of varied interests and backgrounds.

World Congress of Clinical Lipidology
Hungary

World Congress of Clinical Lipidology

December 6-9, 2012 Budapdest, Hungary

This is the first conference of this kind and aimed at health care professionals, who would like to increase their knowledge in lipid disorders.

Lipid disorders remain amongst the most important treatable risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. While we have better and better drugs available to treat dyslipidemias, residual risk remains and many patients do not reach their targets.

This conference aims to deal with all aspects of lipid disorders from diagnosis to treatment, from diet to novel lipid lowering drugs, from adverse events to compliance issues.

Food Environment: The Effects of Context on Food Choice

May 30–31, 2012, Tufts University, Boston, Massachusetts

Consumers’ choices and health outcomes are influenced by the other people, farmers, businesses, and communities that surround them. The “food environment”—the set of food choices available to the consumer, where the food came from, and how it got to the consumer—is a subject of increasing attention. The purpose of this conference is to provide a platform for research on the economics related to the role of consumers’ food environments on their choices and health outcomes. The conference is aimed at providing insights into the influence of the food environment on the quality, price, and availability of food, associated health or environmental impacts, and to uncover the impact of policies aimed at influencing the food production and choice.

This is a joint conference of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) and the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE). The conference is graciously sponsored by the USDA-Economic Research Service and the USDA-AFRI Markets and Trade program.

Possible topics:

Policy
Using behavioral economics to inform policy
Policies to promote and encourage local foods
Information policies (e.g., food miles labels, country of origin labeling and designations)
Food deserts
School lunch procurement and regulation
Markets
Community-supported agriculture
Efficiency and relative cost of local food production
Food processor and retailer influences on food environment
Markets for certification of location
Farmers’ markets and other direct-to-consumer marketing channels
Farm-to-school marketing
Convergence of food consumption patterns
Food Choice and Health
Consumer preferences
Restaurant location, advertising and health outcomes
International comparison of dietary choices and health
Local and regional effects on dietary choices and health outcomes
Effects of social-distance and networking on food choice and health/obesity
