Biomarkers for a Successful Pregnancy

Thursday, 17 October 2013 09:00 - 17:00 London, United Kingdom

Successful biomarker profiling in pregnant or prenatal women could not only help predict the pregnancy risk to mothers, but also survival rate of the unborn child and any possible future complications. There is a wide range of possibility for using biomarkers in pregnancy and prenatal testing.  For example,  research is currently being undertaken to identify biomarkers for

Identifying

·  ectopic pregnancy

·  potential rejection of pregnancy by the mother

·  possible cardiovascular issues

·  maternal autoimmune development

· hypertensive disorders

Assessing

·   pregnancy outcome

Revealing

·  Maternal Alcohol Consumption

·   Maternal tobacco use

Avoiding

· reducing multiple pregnancy

to highlight just a few. This event aims to focus on the current research in this area and discuss the way forward in using biomarkers as a predictive and diagnostic tool to improve pregnancy outcome internationally

This event  has CPD accreditation and is part of the 2013 Pregnancy Summit - www.PregnancySummit2013.com

44th Union World Conference on Lung Health
France
10/30/2013

44th Union World Conference on Lung Health

October 30-November 3, 2013 Paris, France

The 44th Union World Conference on Lung Health will be held at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, France on 30 October–3 November 2013.

The conference theme is "Shared Air, Safe Air?" This theme reflects growing concerns about the need to improve or preserve the quality of the air we breathe for both healthy and vulnerable persons alike. To safeguard the wellness of future generations, it is essential that we take action now on the problems of tobacco smoke and air pollution, and the preventable spread of airborne infections. These are issues that affect everyone, but the risks and the impact are disproportionately greater for those who are poor and disadvantaged.

The vital importance of "Shared Air, Safe Air?" will be a recurrent theme throughout the five-day scientific programme, which will also present the latest developments in the related fights against tuberculosis, HIV, lung disease, non-communicable diseases and the global campaign for tobacco control.

Complexity: Researching Alcohol and Other Drugs in a Multiple World

Complexity: Researching Alcohol and Other Drugs in a Multiple World

21-23 August 2013 Aarhus, Denmark

The last decade has seen the idea of complexity gain force in social science and epidemiological research. As social problems of all kinds prove less amenable to change than is sometimes suggested by the reductionist demands of orthodox positivist approaches, theory and method have turned to ways of articulating the elusive, uncertain and complex.

For some, such as the science and technology studies scholars Annemarie Mol and John Law (2002), complexity means multiplicity rather than unity, realities rather than reality, distinct but overlapping worlds, logics and orders. Implicated, too, are questions about the relation between order and chaos, and the validity of binaries of any kind, including that of simplicity and complexity itself.

This conference offers a forum in which the issues and dilemmas of complexity in alcohol and other drug research can be explored. It welcomes research based on quantitative and qualitative methods, and encourages innovative use of methods, concepts and theoretical approaches. Following the conference, Contemporary Drug Problems, an interdisciplinary quarterly and one of the driving forces behind the conference, will publish a special issue featuring selected papers from the conference.

Possible sub-themes

Changing meanings, definitions and measures of addiction

The relationships between alcohol and other drug use and health and social phenomena
