Accelerating Translational Neurotechnology: Fourth Annual Aspen Brain Forum

September 18 - 20, 2013 Aspen Meadows Resort

Presented by The Aspen Brain Forum Foundation, Science Translational Medicine, and the New York Academy of Sciences

Neurotechnology encompasses electrical, chemical, and medical devices and products that can interact with or intervene in the activity of the central nervous system. These technologies include neuroprosthetics, neuroengineering, neuroimaging, optogenetics, neuromodulation, and neural stem cell therapies. Translating neurotechnologies from the laboratory into clinical and commercial products has been an arduous process. Yet many of these new tools show great potential to revolutionize the treatment of neurological diseases and disorders including depression, pain, headache, epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and traumatic brain injury.

Through a series of plenary sessions, panel discussions, and interactive breakout groups, this 2.5-day international conference shall explore innovative scientific, clinical, and organizational models for advancing the translation of neuroscience research into technology that can dramatically improve diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disease. Participants will also examine the ethical and regulatory challenges in translating neuroscience research, and the potential economic impact of their clinical application.

This conference includes a breakout session. During registration, you will be asked to choose a work group based on your area/disease of interest. Please pick your first and second choices for this session. You may also write in an alternate topic. We will create additional groups if there is sufficient interest. Registrants will receive an email with work group details several weeks prior to the conference.

Choices include: Parkinson's Disease, Major Depression and other Mood Disorders, Chronic Pain, Alzheimer's Disease, or Traumatic Brain Injury.

The IBIA World Congress is the largest gathering of international professionals working in the field of brain injury. Delegates are comprised of physicians, psychologists and neuropsychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses, case managers, legal professionals, advocates and all others working in the field of brain injury.

The Tenth World Congress program will feature internationally recognized invited speakers, platform lectures, workshops, short oral presentations and poster sessions.  The theme of the congress will be Neurotrauma, Technology, and Neurorehabilitation.

The aim of the Tenth World Congress is to provide an opportunity for establishing collegial relationships with international professionals focused on the care and/or service of persons with acquired brain injury and/or the science of brain injury research. State of the art research will be presented dealing with information spanning from basic science to clinical (coma to community) aspects of brain injury.

Finally, the Congress seeks to provide didactic opportunities for clinicians interested in advancing their knowledge in brain injury science, medicine and care.  The official language of the Congress is English, and sessions are open to all delegates registering to attend the event.

2013 International Headache Congress

June 27-30, 2013 Boston, Massachusetts

The American Headache Society (AHS) is proud to have been selected by the International Headache Society (IHS) to host the 2013 International Headache Congress (IHC).

The common goal of both societies is “revolutionizing headache care through science” and the Congress will provide the research, education, and training to attendees to reach those goals for their patients and themselves. The scientific committee has designed a program for physicians, researchers, psychologists, and other health professionals that will address practice gaps by state of the art lectures, interactive sessions and case based sessions. The latest and most up to date knowledge on migraine, other primary headache and secondary headaches as well as facial pain will be presented by internationally known thought leaders, researchers, and clinicians. Clinically relevant basic knowledge will be provided and workable solutions to common and complex headache medicine problems will be addressed. The new headache classification and diagnostic criteria of the IHS will be presented along with imaging and genetic data, as well as debates on controversial management problems. All these items should allow the headache practitioner to better help the headache patients and achieving better outcomes under their care.
