World Allergy Organization International Scientific Conference

World Allergy Organization International Scientific Conference (WISC 2012) Hyderabad, India, 6-9 December 2012. The theme of the Conference is Severe Allergies, Severe Asthma: New Strategies for Treatment and Prevention.

Building on the success of the first WISC in Dubai, December 2010, WAO is excited to launch its second theme-based scientific conference. With 24 Postgraduate Courses on a wide range of topics, Plenary Sessions, Parallel Symposia, Keynote Lectures, Poster Sessions and Highlights in Immunotherapy, WISC 2012 will be a multidisciplinary forum for allergists, pulmonologists, ENTs, dermatologists, internists, pediatricians, gastroenterologists, clinical immunologists and primary care physicians.

WAO is organizing these focused, theme-based scientific conferences in recognition of:

The increasing prevalence and more complex forms of allergic diseases and asthma worldwide, especially in children
The need to create a more integrated approach to the diagnosis and management of allergic diseases
The need to expand the knowledge and practice of allergy and provide more practical knowledge to young professionals

The 2012 Conference on Severe Allergies, Severe Asthma: New Strategies for Treatment and Prevention will provide a forum for the most useful combination of latest research, review of current theory and practice, and hands-on, problem-based learning. Our aim is that participants gain insight into the most effective advances in the diagnosis and management of complex and severe allergies and asthma and in their preventative strategies.

6th Forum on Respiratory Tract Infections

November 28-30 2012 Barcelona, Spain

The 6th RTI Forum in the series is now proposed in response to important advances and novel issues in the matters of epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic events, including significant new agents, both anti-microbial and adjunctive, early recognition of bacterial disease (and rapid pathogen identification) and preventative vaccines. Most of these will be approaching the clinical interface within the next 2-3 years. They urgently merit both objective interdisciplinary evaluation and wider dissemination to leaders in their clinical application. The 6th RTI Forum offers a unique opportunity to discuss these issue with experts in respiratory Infection in an intimate and informal atmosphere and we hope to welcome you in Barcelona!

Topics for RTI 2012 Forum include:

The continued role of Ps aeruginosa in broncho-pulmonary disease.
The “Last” antibiotic decade (the possible future without antibiotics)
The re-emergence of preventable respiratory disease: pertussis, measles, varicella, mumps
Unanswered questions in AECB – what data must new trials provide
Inhaled therapy – an expanding future?
Nosocomial MRSA pneumonia
CA-MRSA
Ventilator-associated-pneumonia (or VA tracheitis)
Tuberculosis / MDR-TB: non-MTB mycobacteria in RTI
Current role of pneumococcal vaccines: efficacies and deficiencies?
Community acquired pneumonia
Healthcare Associated pneumonia
Development of the vancomycins
Aspergillosis

The Lung – a Pivotal Player in Systemic Inflammatory Disorders

June 11-12, 2012 Solna, Sweden

As representatives of the Executive Committee and Advisory Board of this symposium we are happy to invite you to participate in this unique symposium on systemic inflammatory disorders. It is arranged by representatives from both clinic and research, and by specialists in pulmonary medicine, rheumatology and neurology enabling fruitful information and discussions on general topics as well as on specific issues. The high quality of the meeting is reflected by the use of the trade mark “Karolinska Institutet Conferences”, and internationally well recognized speakers further guarantee that interesting data will be presented.

The symposium is arranged as a result of recent data on how smoking and genetic factors have a great impact not only on the lungs but also on other organs affected in systemic inflammatory disorders. These findings call for more intensive collaborations in the future between clinicians representing different specialties’ and for research of truly translational character.

Introductory speeches will be given to inform about common clinical findings which may reflect lung involvement in systemic disorders, and how they can be established. Smoking and co-morbidity in systemic inflammatory disorders will be discussed, and the role of interstitial lung involvement in myositis, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis will be elucidated. Can smoking related changes in the lung trigger joint inflammation, or increase the risk of getting myositis or MS? Another topic is the genetic and possible etiological background in sarcoidosis.

Up-to-date treatment of interstitial lung involvement, pros and cons, and the effects of smoking on treatment will be debated followed by an overview of failures and successes of smoking cessation programs.

You will also at a poster-viewing session be given the opportunity to informally discuss your own abstract. Can you really afford not to participate?
