5th International Conference on Patient- and Family-Centered Care: Partnerships for Quality & Safety

The Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care is pleased to announce that The 5th International Conference on Patient- and Family-Centered Care will be held June 4-6, 2012, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

The International Conference on Patient- and Family-Centered Care showcases innovative programs dedicated to collaboration among health professionals, patients, and families. The conference provides opportunities to address emerging issues in patient- and family-centered care, both at the systems and individual levels. It includes presentations from hospitals, primary care, specialty ambulatory settings, community based programs, public health and mental health agencies, patient- and family-led organizations, schools of medicine, nursing, and other health and helping professions. The conference features a variety of formal and informal meetings, including plenary sessions, concurrent breakouts, round table discussions, workshops, a video theatre, and poster presentations.

With ever-increasing economic challenges and the ongoing threat of budget cuts facing health care organizations, now is the time to invest in cost-saving, patient- and family-centered strategies that will produce measureable outcomes for your hospital or health system. The 5th International Conference on Patient- and Family-Centered Care: Partnerships for Quality and Safety, June 4-6, 2012, in Washington, DC will offer cutting-edge sessions to help develop important initiatives to save money for health care organization and yield positive outcomes for safety, quality, and experience of care.

The Conference will showcase innovative health care programs that are dedicated to partnerships with patients and families to improve outcomes and enhance the quality and safety of health care. Presenters, from a variety of disciplines, will share their experiences and accomplishments in advancing the practice of patient- and family-centered care. Many of the following will be represented: Patient/Family-Health Care Provider Teams, Patient and Family Advisors and Leaders, Health Care Administrators and Managers, Health Care Practitioners, Integrative Health Care Practitioners, Stress Management and Mind-Body Specialists, Health Care Educators and Information Specialists, Child Life Specialists, Psychologists/Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Faculty, Researchers, and Students in Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Education, Allied Health, and other related fields, Architects/Interior Designers, Health Care Planners, Policy Makers, and Government Agency Leaders, and Funders of Health Care Programs.

The following are a few examples of the many potential offerings: presentations on patient-centered medical homes—a model of care to improve health outcomes and strengthen the U.S. health care system; use of computer and telecommunications technology and electronic health records; impact of patient- and family-centered rounds on patient safety, patient and family satisfaction, interdisciplinary care team performance, and medical education; and strategies to improve patient safety and quality of care. Areas of practice may include, for example, adult health care, geriatrics, pediatrics, newborn intensive care, medical homes, accountable care organizations, primary care, integrative health care, chronic illness care, emergency care, critical care, long term care, behavioral and mental health, and public health.
