Bioimaging is a term that collectively refers to tools used to create structural or functional images of living objects or systems. Examples are many, including: PET and HRRT PET, MRI and fMRI, MEG, SPECT and so on. Medical imaging is an important case of bioimaging referring to the technique and process used to create images of the human body, anatomical areas, tissue, and so on, down to the molecular level, for clinical purposes, seeking to reveal, diagnose, or examine diseases, or medical science, including the study of normal anatomy and physiology. Another field closely related to bioimaging is structural biology, a branch of molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics concerned with the spatial and temporal arrangement of biological macromolecules.

International Society for Disease Surveillance 2013 Conference

December 12-13, 2013 New Orleans, Louisiana

The International Society for Disease Surveillance twelfth annual conference will be held December 12-13, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Sheraton New Orleans, with Pre-Conference Workshops on Wednesday, December 11th. The theme for this year's conference— Translating Research and Surveillance into Action— highlights one of the salient topics voiced by the biosurveillance community, and will focus on strategies for incorporating the latest in biosurveillance approaches, methodologies, and results into data-driven public health practices, programs, and policies.

Both the 2013 ISDS Pre-Conference Workshops and Conference are designed help to build capacity for public health surveillance at multiple levels— from the local to global— by addressing a need for information about the most up-to-date practices, tools, and research results. By convening professionals from across the spectrum of biosurveillance, including public health practitioners, academic researchers, healthcare providers, and policymakers, ISDS harnesses the extensive and collective expertise of ISDS members, as well as other stakeholders, to advance surveillance through the integration of research and practice. This unique gathering has resulted in past attendees consistently reporting making positive changes in their work based on what they learned at a pre-conference workshop and the conference.

Do not miss this opportunity to collaborate, innovate, and build upon the knowledge base developed by the attendees — join us in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans!

NGS 2013 Manchester: Applications & Bottlenecks

NGS 2013 Manchester: Applications & Bottlenecks

5th – 6th November 2013 Manchester, United Kingdom

The aim of our NGS conferences is to address key issues being faced by laboratories that are implementing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) into their workflows. Whilst NGS is a very powerful technology that holds the promise of unlocking the secrets of DNA sequences on a large scale, its implementation has not been as smooth as anticipated.

Our previous co-organized event in this area – NGS2013 Oxford Workshop & Symposium – focussed on bioinformatics, but with the current NGS conference in Manchester we want to take the theme a step further by broadening the discussion areas

Whether your laboratory is working in the area of clinical genetics, animal, plant or microbial genetics you will be aware that there are common issues that unite researchers in all of these fields when it comes to establishing workflows for NGS. These issues which have become recognized bottlenecks across all areas of NGS based research include but are not limited to Library generation, Data analysis and Data storage. Whilst these issues are now being addressed by start-up as well as established biotech companies, they are being tackled in isolation of the entire NGS workflow.

The NGS 2013 Manchester conference will bring together leading experts from widely diverse backgrounds to tackle these issues by networking, discussing the common bottlenecks and working with biotech companies to try and mitigate these issues. We strive to keep our conferences informal and create a good personal atmosphere so as to facilitate dialogue and networking amongst all participants.

The result is an NGS conference that gather researchers from Pharma, Biotech, Hospitals and Universities who are working in areas and applications that benefit each other when discussed in the context of common NGS bottlenecks. Researchers working in the areas of micro RNA’s, Exome & Genomic sequencing, NGS panels, inherited diseases, expression analysis, viral genomics to name but a few areas can now listen to each other and find effective strategies and partners that will help in ironing out the bottlenecks.

Who should attend:

1. All NGS users, researchers and students

2. Bioinformaticians

3. NHS Labs and private companies, Pharma, Biotech and Agro Companies

First International Conference on ICTs for Disaster Management
Algeria
03/24/2014

First International Conference on ICTs for Disaster Management

March 24-25, 2014 Algiers, Algeria

ICT-DM'2014 is the inaugural edition for a new conference event on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Disaster Management. The conference aims to bring together academics and practitioners who are involved in the emergency services, emergency planning, disaster management and allied professions, to learn about latest developments, share research, experiences and information about this area.

Disasters are events that cause dramatic losses of life and property and disrupt the normal functioning of the economy and society on a large scale. Disaster management is multifaceted process for developing strategies to reduce the impact of disasters and provide assistance to affected populations. Disaster management involves information- and communication-intensive activities before, during and after disaster strikes. The revolutionary potential of ICTs lies in their ability to instantly and continuously facilitate rapid communication and flow of information, capital, ideas, people and products. Because of this potential, ICTs have made incredible leaps in their usefulness for many application areas and this makes everyone agrees to consider that they have the potential to revolutionize the disaster management area too.

The conference will include paper presentations describing original work on the current state of research and practices in technologies and systems for prevention, preparation, response and recovery of disasters. The themes include (but not limited to) emergency communication, collaboration and coordination, decision enhancement systems, security and privacy, geo-information and space technologies, multi-sensor data collection, information dissemination and early warning and standardization efforts.

There will also be invited presentations by experts from academia, industry, and government as well as special sessions dedicated to case studies, demonstrations and experiences based on pragmatic approaches. This way, the conference will provide a forum for supporting and encouraging both academic researchers, as well as practitioners involved in practice-focused research.
