Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer 27th Annual Meeting

October 26-28, 2012 North Bethesda, Maryland

The SITC 27th Annual Meeting allows for scientific exchange of the most cutting-edge preclinical and clinical data on immunotherapies and biological therapy of cancer. The program included dynamic presentations, interactive panel discussions and scientific posters on the most timely topics in cancer immunotherapy as well as vital information on clinical trial design and regulatory issues to advance collaboration and translation of cancer immunotherapies.

SITC is ideally positioned to meet the identified needs of our attendees. SITC’s strength lies in its history of organizing successful scientific conferences that gather clinicians and scientists from around the globe to interact and discuss the most important issues in cancer immunotherapy. By addressing these needs, SITC advances effective, efficient research and interaction on promising cancer therapies with biological and immunological agents. Through its integrated programs, SITC promotes productive collaboration among scientists and with other organizations in the field. Ultimately this scientific exchange and collaborative environment will lead to better cancer patient outcomes with novel cancer immunotherapies.

The SITC 27th Annual Meeting program format and content is designed to address identified needs/practice gaps and promotes:

Exchange between basic and clinical researchers, thus improving the caliber of the science and promoting translation
Discussion on potential hurdles in cancer immunotherapy from the trial design and regulatory perspective
Integrated understanding of the state of cancer immunotherapy research in today’s environment, identification of potential funding opportunities, and mentoring of junior investigators
Discussion of novel therapies and applications based on the research presented
Interactions with industry to promote access to novel agents for clinical development

Intended Audience

The audience for this program is basic and clinical investigators from academic institutions, industry and regulatory agencies, including clinicians, basic and translational researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and allied health professionals involved in cancer research.

Program Goals

Exchange information on the most recent advances in tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy
Convey recent advances in biology and immunotherapy as they relate to specific cancers and various immunotherapy modalities, cell subsets, animal models, and aspects of negative regulation in the tumor microenvironment
Identify promising research opportunities, new techniques and clinical applications incorporating these advances
Establish dialogue between academia, industry and government on these advances

Expected Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, the participants will be able to:

Summarize the most recent advances in tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy
Integrate recent advances in cancer immunology and immunotherapy into basic, clinical and translational research
Incorporate new research and techniques into clinical applications for cancer immunotherapy
Establish and solidify collaborations among the various members of academia, industry, government and clinical practices to promote clinical evaluation of these advances in more efficient trials

Discussion Workshop: Comparing and Contrasting Techniques That Measure Cell Mediated Immunity

Friday, 06 July 2012 09:00 - 17:00

The Royal College of Pathologists London, United Kingdom

This event is a discussion forum, focused on comparing and contrasting available techniques that measure cell mediated immunity. The study of cell mediated immunity requires the identification of cell types and subsets involved, accurate determination of levels of effector molecules, and the kinetic assessment of these same effector molecules in real time. Advances in Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) allow the assessment of multiple effector molecules, via intracellular antigen detection, in defined cell subsets, via extracellular antigen detection. However, it does not allow the precise and timely assessment of these same factors, especially after re-stimulation of cell samples. Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay ELISA and Cytometric Bead Array (CBA) allow the accurate determination of one or multiple effector molecules, but information on their cellular origin is often sacrificed. Participants will have a chance to explore the advantages and pitfalls of effector molecule detection with the experts during round table and panel discussions

Inducing and Breaking Tolerogenic Antigen-Presenting Cell Function

Thursday, 5 July 2012 London, United Kingdom

Professional antigen-presenting cells (APC) such as dendritic cells (DC) and macrophages play a critical role in the initiation and maintenance of a T cell-mediated immune response. APC are essential for T cell priming, differentiation and activation in lymphoid tissue and at sites of inflammation. Understanding the molecular mechanisms via which APC function can be controlled may give novel insights into how T cell mediated immunity may be induced or blocked. This meeting will highlight current research aimed at inducing APC with tolerogenic function in order to treat inflammatory disease (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis) as well as work aimed at boosting the immunostimulatory function of APC in the context of cancer. The meeting will also highlight recent progress on the suppressive effects of CD4+ regulatory T cells on APC function, and how these can be overcome.

This event has CPD accreditation and will have a discussion panel session.

On registration you will be able to submit your questions to the panel that will be asked by the chair on the day of the event

Multidisciplinary Integrated Approaches to Understand Evasion of Host Immune Responses by Pathogens

Wednesday, 20 June 2012 London United Kingdom

Infectious disease are still a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Successful treatment and prevention are still hampered by insufficient understanding of the subtle interactions that govern the infectious processes. Evasion of the natural or vaccine-induced immune response is often at the basis of the onset and escalation of disease and can also result in the persistence of the pathogen in chronic infections. This EuroSciCon meeting will be a premier forum for the presentation of cutting-edge research on key mechanisms used by different classes of pathogens to evade host innate and acquired immunity. The meeting will contribute to steer the course of future research into more rational measures to prevent disease in humans and animals.

6th Forum on Respiratory Tract Infections

November 28-30 2012 Barcelona, Spain

The 6th RTI Forum in the series is now proposed in response to important advances and novel issues in the matters of epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic events, including significant new agents, both anti-microbial and adjunctive, early recognition of bacterial disease (and rapid pathogen identification) and preventative vaccines. Most of these will be approaching the clinical interface within the next 2-3 years. They urgently merit both objective interdisciplinary evaluation and wider dissemination to leaders in their clinical application. The 6th RTI Forum offers a unique opportunity to discuss these issue with experts in respiratory Infection in an intimate and informal atmosphere and we hope to welcome you in Barcelona!

Topics for RTI 2012 Forum include:

The continued role of Ps aeruginosa in broncho-pulmonary disease.
The “Last” antibiotic decade (the possible future without antibiotics)
The re-emergence of preventable respiratory disease: pertussis, measles, varicella, mumps
Unanswered questions in AECB – what data must new trials provide
Inhaled therapy – an expanding future?
Nosocomial MRSA pneumonia
CA-MRSA
Ventilator-associated-pneumonia (or VA tracheitis)
