20th International Conference on Medical Physics
1st - 4th September 2013 Brighton, United Kingdom
The conference theme is 'New Horizons - Global and Scientific'. The past 50 years have seen unparalleled applications of physics and engineering to healthcare and, without doubt, this will continue. Medical physics and biomedical engineering seek to translate basic research into application for the promotion of human health. This can only be achieved through collaborations which are both multi-disciplinary and multi national; ICMP will provide an ideal platform for fostering them.
International Conference on Deep Brain Stimulation - 25 Years
The International Conference on Deep Brain Stimulation - 25 years - will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 30 - 31 May, 2013.
The topics of the scientific program include
1) Basic mechanisms and animal models of DBS
2) Human electrophysiology and imaging
3) Deep Brain Stimulation in
- Movement disorders
- Neuropsychiatric disorders
- Dementia / epilepsy / pain
4) History, visions, ethics
In the past 25 years the development of deep brain stimulation has revolutionized the treatment of Parkinson´s disease and other movement disorders. Although the mechanisms of DBS are still not fully understood the remarkable therapeutic efficacy of DBS in Parkinson´s disease and tremor has prompted clinical and basic research to scrutinize further applications in neurological and psychiatric disorders. At the same time DBS has tremendously fostered research in basal ganglia physiology and pathophysiology.
This conference will provide a unique opportunity to cover and discuss the current state-of-the-art, hot topics, and future directions of DBS in plenary talks, symposia, short oral communications and poster presentations.
Joint Workshop: Technology for Innovation in Radiation Oncology
June 13-14, 2013
Ruth L. Kirschstein Auditorium, Natcher Conference Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md.
ASTRO, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) are co-sponsoring a two-day workshop for radiation oncology professionals involved or interested in technological advances in radiation oncology research. Keynote addresses will be presented by thought leaders in the field, including highlights of research opportunities in advanced technology from both a physician and physicist perspective.
BioCAS 2013--IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference
October 31-November 2, 2013 Rotterdam, the Netherlands
At the crossroads of medicine, life sciences, physical sciences and engineering, exciting interdisciplinary research and development activities are taking place that will shape tomorrow’s healthcare and wellbeing. The IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference (BioCAS) serves as a premier forum for these activities. It brings together researchers, designers and engineers from industry, academia and government to present and share the latest cutting-edge research results and innovative solutions for today’s complex health problems at the frontiers of biomedical engineering and circuits and systems.

Up Close and Personalized, International Congress on Personalized Medicine
July 25-28, 2013 Paris, France
Personalized Medicine is revolutionizing the medical world. Understanding and integrating genetic and molecular information with traditional clinical knowledge is the hallmark of this transformation. At present much of the medical practice is based on standards of care derived from the epidemiologic studies of large cohorts that do not take into account the individual’s genetic, proteomic, and metabolic characteristics. Furthermore, in spite of efforts to develop data-driven, expert–based, clinical decision support systems, there are no clear and simple means to disseminate new findings into clinical practice.
Following the great success of the meeting in Florence Italy last year, the main focus of the second Up Close and Personalized Congress is to examine the essential clinical, imaging, genomic, proteomic, metabolomic, pharmacogenomic and biomarker data necessary to predict, prevent and treat major medical conditions concerning metabolism (diabetes and obesity) and cancer. As in the first meeting one of the key themes will be to explore bio-informatic tools, algorithms, decision support systems and other new platforms for disease prediction and better tailoring treatment modeling to the individual patient. Furthermore, we will discuss health policy issues such as barriers for implementing Personalized Medicine, and quality assurance.
Topics
Diabetes
Diagnostics
Health Policy
