2nd International Conference on Prehypertension and CardioMetabolic Syndrome
Spain
01/31/2013

2nd International Conference on Prehypertension and CardioMetabolic Syndrome

January 31 – February 3, 2013 Barcelona, Spain

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in The 2nd International Conference on Prehypertension and CardioMetabolic Syndrome, which will take place in Barcelona, Spain from January 31 - February 3, 2013.

Prehypertension is associated with other components of the metabolic syndrome i.e. obesity, glucose intolerance and dyslipidemia. The association is due to common mechanistic pathways and has implications on cardiovascular complications. Diet and exercise but not drug therapy benefit all components of the metabolic syndrome. Antihypertensive medications may lead to deterioration in glucose tolerance while glucose lowering agents may affect blood pressure. Thus, any discussion about the approach to prehypertension must be done in context to the whole cardio metabolic risk.

The Conference will discuss Important Topics such as:

Prehypertension - Definition, Classification, Diagnosis and Epidemiology

Progression of Hypertension, Increased Cardiovascular Risk, Vascular and End Organ Damage in Prehypertension

Screening and Early Diagnosis of Prehypertension and Subclinical Cardiovascular Damage

Pulmonary Hypertension Association's 10th International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions

The Power of One: From a Kitchen Table to Around the World

June 22-24, 2012 Orlando, Florida

In 1990, four women gathered around a kitchen table in Florida and started an organization that would become the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA). PHA has served as the center point of the PH community's progress toward new research and treatments, increased awareness, education and support for the people who live and work with this disease on a daily basis. In celebration of PHA's 10th International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions, we'll be returning to the state where our journey began over 20 years ago.

Celebrating this special 10th International PH Conference in Florida provides the PH community with the perfect opportunity to look back at the progress that has been made since our groundwork was first laid around that kitchen table for research, advocacy and education. While our PHamily - including patients, caregivers, researchers, physicians, nurses and everyone else who lives with, works with or knows about PH - has expanded greatly since 1990, we will always consider Florida as the heart and home of our organization thanks to what our four founders accomplished there.

Join us on this homecoming journey as we celebrate the history of our organization and bring together the PH community. We look forward to seeing you in Florida in 2012!

55th Annual Thomas L. Petty Aspen Lung Conference

“Mechanics and Mechanisms of Pulmonary Hypertension”

June 6-9, 2012 Aspen, Colorado

The theme of the 55th Meeting of the Thomas L. Petty Aspen Lung Conference is “Mechanics and Mechanisms of Pulmonary Hypertension”. Emphasizing the integration of basic, translational and clinical sciences, the meeting will focus on the utilization of new strategies and technologies to investigate the pathogenesis, treatments and outcomes of pulmonary hypertension. Anchored by twelve “state-of-the-art” presentations delivered by international experts with accompanying abstract presentations, the thematic sessions will address epidemiology, progenitor cell biology, the role of inflammation, genetic somatic mutations and epigenetics, the impact of right ventricle (RV) dysfunction and RV-pulmonary artery coupling, the etiology and implication of PAH in WHO class III disease and prospects for novel disease modifying and preventive therapies. The Conference Summary will be presented by Werner Seeger, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University Giessen Hospital, Germany. Dr. Seeger is Chairman of the Lung Center, and the Director of the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research and one of the world’s preeminent experts in the field of pulmonary vascular disease.

3rd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity

3rd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity

July 9-12, 2012 Québec City, Québec, Canada

The 3rd International Congress on Abdominal Obesity (ICAO 2012) is a highly anticipated event that will build on the success of last year’s Congress, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Congress’s primary objective is to bring together medical professionals from all specialties to exchange ideas and information and raise awareness of abdominal obesity as a new modifiable risk factor which, along with traditional risk factors, plays a central role in this new concept of global cardiometabolic risk.

This relatively new Congress’s innovative multidisciplinary approach has facilitated the development of a new medical paradigm, whereby complications as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are no longer evaluated and treated in isolation.

We look forward to seeing you in Québec City, Québec, Canada, for what promises to be an exciting and cutting edge gathering of medical professionals of varied interests and backgrounds.

Cardiovascular disorders are the main cause of morbidity and mortality in many countries around the world including Latin American countries. The Pan American Congress on Heart failure will provide an in-depth focus on the best approaches for preventing and treating heart failure (HF) of various etiologies. Topics range from early recognition and intervention in high risk patients to the expanding use of drugs and devices to monitor and treat heart failure and detect evidence of worsening. The curriculum includes updates on treatment of systemic and pulmonary hypertension management of patients with HF due to coronary disease, acute decompensate HF, systolic and diastolic HF, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease. Atrial fibrillation, use of biomarkers and devices to aid in diagnosis, expanding indications for implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy, as well as treatment of sleep apnea and stem cell therapy.
