Risky Business 2 – The International Dementia Conference

June 26-27, 2014 Sydney, Australia

How do we support people with dementia to live their lives well?

Are we really delivering care that is personal to the person with dementia and their carer?

What changes did you make after Risky Business 2012?

Risky Business 2 – this time it's personal! will consider the opportunities and challenges confronting care for people with dementia.  Inappropriate use of anti-psychotic medication, delivering the right hospital care alongside the changes needed in community, day and residential services are some of the issues that will be considered during this three day event.

The International Dementia Conference will feature highly regarded international and national keynote speakers, numerous invited speakers, academic and research papers, case studies, workshops and poster presentations . This will be an opportunity like no other to network and engage with industry leaders and experts from all over the world.  As well as an international standard conference, a major component of the event will be the extensive Trade Exhibition that will showcase the best of what the industry has to offer. Leading exhibitors from around the globe will display products, services and innovations in this world standard exhibition. In addition to the delegates, it is anticipated that many visitors will attend the free exhibition.

New to this conference, we'll begin in the afternoon of the 25th July with a free event open to the public. Themed as an afternoon tea and information event, it will include presentations on the latest thinking on dementia and provide an opportunity for discussion and support to carers and people with dementia. Presentations and the afternoon tea will take place in the heart of the exhibition. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to share their products and services with the wider public, and equip them with information

The conference is for everyone involved in supporting people with dementia or developing their expertise in the field.

Second International Youth Mental Health Conference

The Second International Youth Mental Health Conference will be held at Brighton Dome, Brighton, UK, between September 30 and October 2, 2013.

Adolescence and early adulthood is a critical time for personal development. The major threat to this comes from mental ill health with 75% of mental and substance use disorders emerging by age 25. Latest research reveals the complex interplay of genes, environment, psychological and social factors underpinning the development of these conditions in young people. These conditions can have a devastating impact on young people’s potential to establish their own independence and goals. Yet most of these conditions are very treatable and, if caught early, most people will make a good recovery. Early access and engagement is crucial but traditional health services are not youth friendly. Major gaps exist between adolescent and adult services – just at the stage when early intervention could be most effective.

New models are emerging of youth mental health services that embrace therapeutic optimism and incorporate the principals of prevention, early intervention, and recovery. They place young people and their families at the centre of decisions about service and policy development. Youth-friendly accessibility, engagement, and age-appropriate interventions are key to their success.

‘Young people at the forefront of reshaping services’ is a conference that aims to improve our understanding of youth mental heath, identify gaps in service provision, promote more effective interventions and models of care. This conference will celebrate the vital contribution that young people and their families can make to this field.

Conference themes

• Young people technology and their wellbeing

• Youth participation and active engagement in programs and research

• Service reform and innovation

• Role of families and carers

• Innovations in treatment and interventions
