Mathematical and Computational Medicine Conference 2012

Saturday December 1 2012 - Wednesday December 5 2012 Xcaret, Mexico

The purpose of the Zing Conference on Mathematical and Computational Medicine is to bring together eminent scholars with expertise in various fields of mathematical and computational medicine, as well as experimentalists and medical doctors interested in application of computational methods in clinical studies. The mathematical and computational medicine is now one of the most important and rapidly growing fields of modern medicine, and will become even more important in nearest future, when the cost of individual human gene sequencing becomes affordable for mass-scale clinical use (The $1000 Human Genome). New sequencing techniques, such as RNA-Seq produce enormous amount of information on the transcriptome in healthy and diseased cells, that need a development of new mathematical and computational methods to extract the most important medical information. The scope of the proposed Zing Conference will cover many different fields mathematical and computational medicine and biomedical informatics, such as genetics, genomics, epigenetics, and epigenomics of various diseases including mental and learning disorders, autism, and somatic diseases, with a special emphasis on cancer, protein misfolding disorders related to amyloid formation in neurogenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease), gene regulation, biomarker development, computer aided drug development, computational pharmacodynamics, computational immunology, systems biology and its extension to systems medicine, machine learning methods in application to biomedical data, applicability of computational methods in personalized medicine, and regenerative medicine. A special session will be devoted to errors in measurements of biomedical data and statistical evidence-based medicine.

Cognitive Enhancers: 22nd Neuropharmacology Conference

Official Satellite to the 2012 Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience

11-12 October 2012 New Orleans, Louisiana

Cognitive enhancement has become a subject of considerable research and, both in neuroscience and society at large, growing controversy. This satellite meeting will survey progress in the field from attempts to facilitate the substrates of memory and cognition in animal models to clinical studies targeted at major psychiatric disorders. Attendees will accordingly have a first-hand opportunity to learn about the broad spectrum of enhancement research ranging from epigenetics through synaptic plasticity and brain networks to behavior. Individual sessions include both cutting edge work on currently marketed drugs and experiments using novel, mechanism-based compounds. The program will therefore be of interest to those interested in present and future therapeutic prospects for autism, age-related cognitive decline, addiction, and depression. It also directly addresses the possibility of enhancement in normal subjects, a contentious issue that affects much of the neuroscience community.

Topics List

Enhancing brain substrates of cognition:
Plasticity and memory
Cortical systems
Enhancement as a treatment for cognitive disorders:
Aging
Spine dysfunction
Experience and epigenetics
Affective disorders
Schizophrenia
Autism spectrum disorders

The Contribution of Epigenetics in Pediatric Environmental Health

Wednesday, May 30, 2012 - Friday, June 01, 2012 San Francisco, California

The conference will highlight the role of epigenetics in determining the impact of the environment on pediatric disease and children’s current and future health.

Conference Objectives:

To inform the scientific and public community of the rapidly growing science on epigenetic regulation as it relates to pediatrics.
To explore the contribution of pediatric environmental exposures to epigenetic regulation and how they vary by exposure, timing and host characteristics, including among disadvantaged populations.
To identify research gaps in the epigenetic literature, especially those that relate to characteristics of environmental exposures (dose, timing) and host (diet, age).
To foster collaborations among scientists and the public to conduct research and to translate research findings on epigenetic regulation important to pediatric health outcomes (i.e. the etiology and prevention of abnormal neurodevelopment, asthma/allergy, obesity, endocrine disorders, etc.) to relevant sectors including public health, medical, policy, and business.

Who Should Attend?

This conference is intended for research scientists in the fields of environmental health, epidemiology, and environmental toxicology, as well as for public health professionals. Students in these disciplines are encouraged to register.

Fourth International Conference of Quantitative Genetics: Understanding Variation in Complex Traits

Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Scotland, Unied Kingdom 17-22 June 2012

We invite you to join us in the beautiful city of Edinburgh for the Fourth International Conference of Quantitative Genetics, being held from 17 – 22 June 2012 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

Variation in quantitative and other complex phenotypes underpins most important traits in human health and disease, agriculture, natural populations and evolution. The genomics revolution has provided the tools to start the dissection of such traits, enhancing both their understanding and exploitation. This has led to an explosion of interest and new studies across all of biology.

The aim will be to present and discuss state-of-the-art results, theoretical developments, understanding and methodology across the whole range of quantitative genetics - the genetic analysis and interpretation of data on complex traits - and to provide a stimulating conference in an attractive locale. Topics will include statistical methods for parameter estimation, including analysis of trait, genomic and functional genomic data; methods for QTL and gene identification; genetic control of complex traits; prediction of breeding value and individual risk, and interpretation of evolutionary change. The meeting will pertain to and span results from, for example, humans, livestock, crops, micro-organisms and natural and experimental populations of all species.

The conference will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, and sponsored by the UK’s Genetics Society. It follows previous successful meetings at Iowa State University in Ames, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.
