Inhaled Particles XI (IPXI)

23 to 25 September 2013 Nottingham, United Kingdom

Inhaled Particles XI (IPXI), organised by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) and to be held in the city of Nottingham, UK on 23 to 25 September 2013 is the latest in a long line of highly successful and prestigious meetings and is the oldest ongoing symposium series.

The first Inhaled Particles conference was held in Oxford in 1960 and ever since the meetings have been aimed at attracting leaders and students in all of the scientific disciplines associated with particle-related lung disease. Over the intervening years, Inhaled Particles has been the event at which all of the key developments in occupational and public health associated with airborne particles have been aired and debated. Its integrative approach to the science of particle-mediated lung disease is a distinctive and successful feature of the Inhaled Particles Conference series. IPXI seeks to continue this fine tradition and invites all researchers who work on exposure, metrology, epidemiology and toxicology of particle-associated diseases to visit Nottingham, in September 2013 to attend the latest in Inhaled Particles meeting.

The meeting is multi-disciplinary in its approach to addressing topics within exposure (e.g. controls, instrumentation / measurement), hazard (e.g. deposition/ clearance of inhaled particles, fate / mechanisms of disease) and risk assessment (e.g. health impacts and links with policy) of particles brought together to under the theme of human occupational health. The meeting brings together leading researchers on the adverse effects of particles on the lungs and extrapulmonary target tissues to showcase cutting edge research and debate solutions to the challenges faced within particle research and risk assessment.

Securing Urban Resiliency with Living Architecture: Food - Water - Energy

People in every urban region need access to clean water, secure energy and food. It’s the ability of resilient communities to deal with adversity - be it manmade actions or natural disasters - and bounce back quickly to provide these key needs to the local population.

How do our cities build resilience?

Resilient communities take new approaches to design and planning, approaches that are inherently cross- and multi-disciplinary, integrative in their nature and target the maximized use and reuse of resources.

Resilient communities adopt longer term, systems-based approaches to infrastructure planning and development; where others see waste, they see opportunity.

Resilient communities are innovative places that adapt to change, adopt new technologies and governance, spawn and embrace new business models.

Resilient communities use public purchasing power to build for current and future generations.

Resilient communities are better places in invest in the long term, both personally and professionally.

At CitiesAlive San Francisco, we will explore the many links between the roofs and walls of our cities and the critical social, environmental and economic necessities of urban life that lead to urban resilience.

Develop new business opportunities along the West Coast - from LA to Vancouver, from Portland to the San Francisco Bay area - and across North America, at the 11th CitiesAlive Green Roof & Wall Conference.

Watermicro 2013--17th International Symposium on Health-Related Water Microbiology

15-20th September, 2013 Florianopolis Island, Santa Catarina, Brazil

The Organizing Committee of the 17th International Symposium on Health-Related Water Microbiology invites you to the WaterMicro2013 Symposium, which will be held in Florianopolis Island, Santa Catarina, Brazil, from 15-20th September, 2013. This is a biennial event organized by the International Water Association (IWA) Specialist Group on Health-Related Water Microbiology (HRWM) established in 1977, that covers all aspects of infectious diseases transmitted by water. The event congregates experts working in many fields: environmental and clinical virology, bacteriology and parasitology; infectious diseases epidemiology, microbial risk assessment; water treatment engineering and environmental health practices, amongst others. This is a valuable and unique opportunity for the scientific community, students and professionals to meet and exchange ideas, to explore the state of the art and to debate the key issues related to the importance of the microorganisms in water quality and their impact on human health. This is also a great opportunity to meet environmental microbiologists studying health-related water microbiology in the Latin America and the Caribbean.

Topics to be covered at WaterMicro 2013 include water pollution and diseases;  microbial source tracking; catchment protection; water reuse and health, microbial biofilms; water and sanitation in developing countries; global change and water quality; recreational water and health; epidemiology of waterborne diseases; microbial risk assessment as well as factors relevant to the microbial quality of shellfish growing areas.

3rd International Conference on Research Frontiers in Chalcogen Cycle Science & Technology

The 3rd International Conference on Research Frontiers in Chalcogen Cycle Science & Technology aims to provide an international forum to update the graduate and doctoral students, practicing engineers, researchers and scientists from academic, industry and research institutes, the recent developments, new research results and a wide-array of innovative applications relevant to Chalcogen chemistry, Chalcogen Cycle and Chalcogen technology.

The 3rd International Conference on Research Frontiers in Chalcogen Cycle Science & Technology (also known as the G16 Conference) will be held from May 27 – May 28, 2013 at UNESCO-IHE, Delft, The Netherlands.

This conference is specifically devoted to explore and introduce the world to the latest advancements of Chalcogen-based research, from a science, engineering, health and environment perspective. Following the success of our two previous G16 conferences in Wageningen and Delft, The Netherlands, in May 2008 and May 2010, respectively, we welcome your contributions in specific gist areas of Chalcogen-based research, that includes the following themes: novel (bio)conversions of chalcogen and metals, chalcogen-metal interactions, analytical techniques, (bio)reactor systems, speciation of chalcogen, production of chalcogen nanoparticles, role of metals in biodegradation, and other emerging research areas for application. Special emphasis will also be placed on novel innovations (physical, chemical and biological based innovations) in Chalcogen research that has a foreseeable impact on preserving/restoring the natural environment.

The organizers firmly believe that the 3rd G16 Conference will provide an outstanding international forum for participants to present and discuss progresses in Chalcogen-based research, development and their potential applications. We are confident that you will find this G16 conference informative and enjoyable, and that you will have a great stay in The Netherlands.
