Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Journal of Family Nursing: Illness Beliefs Model

Editor: Janice M. Bell, RN, PhD
University of Calgary, Canada

Invitation to Submit Manuscripts for a Special Issue of Journal of Family Nursing

The Journal of Family Nursing (JFN) is inviting manuscripts for a special issue addressing the “Illness Beliefs Model”. The Illness Beliefs Model (Wright & Bell, 2009; Wright, Watson, & Bell, 1996) highlights the connections between beliefs, illness, and suffering. This compassionate approach to working with families with serious illness invites health professionals to a relationship practice to understand how illness beliefs can either enhance or soften suffering. The illness beliefs of both health practitioners and family members can influence the healing experience. The Illness Beliefs Model is being used to guide clinical practice, research, and education in a variety of cultural contexts.

For this special issue, Guest Editor, Dr. Lorraine M. Wright and Journal of Family Nursing Editor, Dr. Janice M. Bell are seeking descriptions of practice and/or knowledge translation, research reports, and theoretical manuscripts that critique and/or extend understanding of this model developed for advanced practice in Family Systems Nursing. Work directed to all populations of families in all cultural contexts are welcome.

For consideration for inclusion in this special issue, manuscripts must be submitted by September 1, 2013 through the usual JFN electronic submission process:

http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com:80/jfn. Indicate on the cover page of the manuscript that it is being submitted for the special issue. All manuscripts will be peer reviewed.

Individuals who are interested in submitting a manuscript are encouraged to contact either Dr. Wright (lmwright@ucalgary.ca) or Dr. Bell (jmbell@ucalgary.ca) to discuss further in advance of
submission.

Call for Manuscripts on Musculoskeletal Issues: AANP CE Professional Practice Compendium

AANP CE Professional Practice Compendium

Call for Manuscripts on Musculoskeletal Issues: AANP CE Professional Practice Compendium

Deadline: June 28, 2013

The AANP CE Center recently launched a quarterly, online, peer-reviewed continuing education publication, entitled the NP Professional Practice Compendium. The intent is to publish timely, original, peer-reviewed articles with DIRECT application to professional practice, whether addressing clinical conditions or other areas such as political advocacy and practice management. Due to the need for a professional practice application, manuscripts with a research-based focus will not be included. Each issue of the Compendium will be published online, with individual articles also accessible through the AANP CE Center.

Because of the quarterly, topical aspect of the Compendium, we will be unable to accept manuscripts requiring substantial revisions or editing. Resources to assist in developing writing skills are available through Nurse Author & Editor, Wiley-Blackwell’s international publication dedicated to nurse authors, editors, and reviewers (http://www.nurseauthoreditor.com/).

For consideration, manuscripts should be submitted by the deadline date, as an editable, word document attachment to an email sent to compendium@aanp.org . The first page of the manuscript should be a “cover page” including the title and the corresponding author’s name, credentials, affiliation, and contact information, followed by listing of all authors, with credentials and affiliations. A brief (four word) running head should be included on each page. The authors’ names and affiliation may not appear in the running head. Pages should be numbered. The title of the manuscript should not exceed 15 words. There should be a statement on the cover page that the content is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is submitted for exclusive consideration by the Compendium. APA format should be used. The body of the manuscript should not exceed 3000 words. A standard 11-12 point font should be used throughout the manuscript, with one-inch margins. Tables and figures should be placed separately at the end of the manuscript. We request authors to acquire prior permission for table and graphic inclusion and include any written permissions with manuscript submission, if applicable.

Submission must be accompanied by a brief biosketch for each author, along with a disclosure identifying all commercial relationships and potential conflicts of interests (see attached). If there are no relationships to report, only the biosketch with the abbreviated disclosure statement is required. If there are relationships to describe, the full disclosure page must also be included. Because each article will be accredited for continuing education, all potential conflicts of interest must be reconciled prior to a manuscript being accepted for publication.

Each manuscript being considered for publication will be submitted to iThenticate, an online plagiarism-detection program. Only manuscripts validated as original will be accepted.

If a manuscript is accepted, the authors will be required to submit a copyright transfer agreement prior to publication. Additionally, a request for a photo to accompany the author’s bio for the publication will be requested at this time.
