We are inviting papers for a special issue on Quality of Life in Social Science & Clinical Medicine to be published by Europe's Journal of Psychology (EJOP) in February 2013.
This special issue, edited by Dr. Paraskevi Theofilou, welcomes theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions on the following main topics:

1) Quality of life and mental health in chronic disease patients as well as in socially disadvantaged populations
2) Patients’ adherence to treatment - Interventions to improve adherence
3) Health locus of control in chronic disease patients - The relation to QoL and treatment adherence
4) Quality of life in health professionals, e.g. stress, anxiety, burnout
5) Quality of life definition, measurement etc in social science and clinical medicine (as a theoretical topic)

EJOP is a peer-reviewed open-access journal meant to facilitate communication between psychologists, both young professionals and specialists, and to give them access to high-quality professional information, thus fostering the scientific psychological community in Europe and worldwide. Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Journal of Clinical Nursing: Sexual and Reproductive Health

The issue of sexual and reproductive health is a major area of clinical practice. It encompasses a broad range of topics – sexuality, sexual behavior, altered body image, sexual and reproductive pathologies and infections, HIV/AIDS, abortion, sexual abuse as well as sexual health services, sex education and the impact of illness, social deprivation and age upon sexuality and sexual expression. Nurses are increasingly involved in work with patients, clients and communities that have sexual and reproductive needs – developing a holistic approach to care is essential, as well as increasing the evidence base for sexual and reproductive health interventions. This special issue aims to make a substantial contribution to this evidence base and also celebrate the wide ranging nature of sexual and reproductive health nursing practice.

Scope Researchers, practitioners and educators are invited to submit a manuscript based on a research study, literature review or discursive topic related to any area of Sexual and Reproductive health that has implications for nursing practice.

Manuscripts are especially welcome in the following areas (although other papers will be considered):

Child and adolescent sexual health issues, HIV/AIDS, Ageing and sexual health, Sexuality and chronic illnesses, Mental health and sexuality, Sex education, Sexual health in marginalized populations, Sexuality and clinical practice, Establishing/evaluating sexual health care or services, sexually transmitted infections, sexual health and pregnancy

Chronic disease continues to be one of the leading causes of death and economic loss in most countries today. Hence, it has become a central problem for healthcare and many are looking for solutions.

Early detection and prevention of chronic disease is one of the preferred strategies for reducing the incidence of chronic disease and address escalating cost issues. It has been widely documented that assisting chronic disease management through information technology tends to facilitate better health outcomes. We are therefore seeing several health IT projects being initiated and successfully supporting chronic disease management.

This special issue aims to host a discussion and discourse on the possible applications of IS/IT (information systems/information technology) to facilitate better chronic disease management.

Suitable topics include but are not limited to:

Facilitating standardisation via including care plans and guidelines for health information systems and developing decision support systems for assisting healthcare providers' decision making

Call for Papers for a Cardiovascular Disease Theme Issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)

Over the past century as the West transitioned from an agrarian to an industrial economy, the nature of the dominant diseases afflicting humans changed from communicable to chronic conditions. During this epidemiologic transition, cardiovascular disease has ascended from an uncommon problem to its current position as the number one cause of death and disability worldwide.1​,2 This transformation of human disease is continuing as regional economies develop and the global population ages. In many high-income countries the onset of some cardiovascular events is being delayed from middle to older age and more people are living longer with various forms of cardiovascular disease. In middle- and lower-income countries the ascendancy of cardiovascular disease has been more rapid than in the West. Although some progress has been made in parts of the world in reversing trends in certain cardiovascular risk factors, major risk factors such as obesity are still on the rise globally.

The emergence of this cardiovascular disease epidemic has led to amazing advances in understanding of its pathophysiology and improvements in treatment. Health care systems have evolved to deal with acute manifestations of chronic diseases, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, improving survival and lessening disability. Secondary preventive strategies such as β-blockers and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors have improved long-term management. Preventive and public health measures (eg, diet modification and exercise) have reduced the rates of incident myocardial infarction and stroke in the West. However, the challenges to deal with this global burden of risk factors and cardiovascular disease remain substantial.

In November, as clinicians and scientists gather to exchange information and ideas about virtually all aspects of cardiovascular disease at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions, JAMA will publish a theme issue on cardiovascular disease. We at JAMA view this as an opportunity to share with our worldwide readers, listeners, and viewers important new findings on understanding of cardiovascular disease as well as of major challenges and future directions in its prevention, treatment, and longer-term management.

As we plan for this theme issue, authors are invited to submit manuscripts on any topic related to cardiovascular disease for consideration for this JAMA theme issue. A high priority will be given to manuscripts reporting results of major late-breaking clinical trials and other high-impact studies that will be presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions. These will be considered for simultaneous release at the time of the presentation. We are interested in high-quality clinically relevant original research that includes multicenter randomized trials and large-scale observational epidemiological studies. We also welcome scholarly work addressing how to expedite the adoption of effective cardiac therapies into clinical settings. Manuscripts on comparative effectiveness, application of cardiovascular disease treatments in clinical settings, prevention, and novel work that expands understanding of the mechanistic underpinnings of cardiovascular disease will be considered. The effect of cardiovascular disease around the globe is also important to our readers.

Interested authors should consult the Instructions for Authors3​ for guidelines on preparation and submission of manuscripts. All submitted manuscripts will undergo JAMA 's usual rigorous editorial review and evaluation. Manuscripts received by July 1, 2012, will have the best chance for inclusion in the 2012 JAMA theme issue on cardiovascular disease. We encourage authors who anticipate presentation of late-breaking studies to communicate with editorial staff as early as possible.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Journal of Neuropsychology: Cognitive Function in Parkinson’s Disease

In the last 10-20 years, there has been a growing body of literature relating to the cognitive impairments associated with Parkinson’s disease, including core cognitive processes such as recognition memory and attention, but more recently aspects of cognition such as prospective memory, decision-making and emotion recognition have also been explored. This research has moved beyond accounts of cognitive impairments in Parkinson’s, with implications for clinical management and real-life functioning for people with Parkinson’s. In addition to these important aspects, understanding the cognitive effects of Parkinson’s can illuminate normal function.

This special issue will comprise both reviews and empirical papers and cover a range of different cognitive processes in Parkinson’s including (but not limited to) reward, decision-making, memory, inhibition, hallucinations and action processing. Bringing together these topics and different approaches to the question of cognition in Parkinson’s will make for a thought-provoking and cutting edge special issue, which will be of interest to both basic scientists and clinicians.

Call for Papers: International Journal of MCH & AIDS (IJMA)

In our increasingly global world, the health of mothers, infant, and children and youth populations has become an important international health issue. This is particularly important in developing countries where maternal and child health (MCH) is deteriorating and inequalities are growing due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic ravaging populations in developing world. There is an urgent need to collect, document, and disseminate the existing evidence and emerging issues on the intersection between maternal and child health and HIV/AIDS. Above all, non-communicable diseases threaten the fragile gains made in addressing precarious state of maternal and child health in developing countries.

The International Journal of MCH and AIDS (IJMA) provides a platform through which researchers, as well as program and policy makers, can learn about the various factors that contribute to the health and well-being of mothers, infants, children, and adults and how the HIV/AIDS is decimating the gains in those sectors. The journal focuses on empirical findings from low and middle-income countries exploring trends and patterns at international, national, and local levels. Research articles and rigorous meta-analyses are welcome. Ideas for review articles on MCH and HIV/AIDS in developing countries will be considered. The topics to be covered in the journal include, but are not limited to:

Life expectancy, cause-specific mortality, and human development

Maternal, infant, child, and youth mortality and morbidity in developing countries

Determinants and consequences of childhood and adolescent obesity and sedentary behaviors

Due to space constraints, please limit the text to 4500 words and the graphic elements to a combined total of 6 tables and figures. Final decisions regarding inclusion in this special issue rest solely with the Editors.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of Developing World Bioethics: Ethics and Treatment Access Activism: Courts, Health Policy and Health Economics

This Special Issue of Developing World Bioethics will focus on the emergence of ethical analyses pertaining to impoverished patients’ access to medical care and to medicines. The main focus of this issue will be on the fight against HIV/AIDS and the “neglected” diseases of the last two decades. New ethical understandings have been developed in different contexts and expressed in governmental health policies, and through tribunals, public discussion forums, patients association claims, humanitarian organizations and funds, research programs, governmental health departments, international health organizations, etc. In each case, what is at stake are norms such as equity, as well as equality and justice, which provide an important foundation for individual and collective forms of activism as well as governmental actions. The Special Issue of Developing World Bioethics aims at bringing about a critical discussion of the variegated ethical arguments for improving access to treatment and medicines, which have been put forward by different social actors.
