Call for Papers on CNS Control of Metabolism for AJP – Endocrinology & Metabolism

AJP – Endocrinology & Metabolism invites investigators to contribute original research articles pertaining to the area of central nervous system (CNS) control of the peripheral metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins/amino acids. Manuscripts focused on neuronal control of appetite, metabolism and maintenance of body weight are encouraged, as are papers dealing with CNS mechanisms activated by hormones and nutrients which regulate peripheral metabolism. Specifically, we are soliciting original high-quality manuscripts that address the integration of different levels of scientific analyses, including molecular/cellular, biochemical, genetic, physiologic, and pathophysiologic in the investigation of this general area.  However, regardless of approach, each manuscript is expected to address mechanism of action at some level. All manuscripts accepted from this Call for Papers will be included in a unique online article collection, which will also include specially commissioned Review articles.

All manuscripts should be submitted online via eJournal Press. During the online submission process, under the “Keywords & Special Sections” tab, please use the “Category” drop-down menu and select  “Call for Papers: CNS Control of Metabolism.” All submitted manuscripts will undergo normal peer review as received and accepted manuscripts will be published online upon acceptance. Articles published from this Call for Papers will be highlighted with a special Call for Papers banner.

To be eligible for inclusion in this Call for Papers, manuscripts must be submitted prior to June 30, 2013.

Our aim for this Call for Papers is to attract the very best science, regardless of approach, and so we welcome your submissions.  Please contact the Editor-in-Chief, Charles H. Lang, PhD (clang@psu.edu) with any questions or concerns.

Call for Papers on Islet Biology for AJP – Endocrinology & Metabolism

AJP – Endocrinology & Metabolism invites investigators to contribute original research articles pertaining to the general areas of islet cell biology, regeneration, transplantation, stem cells, nutrient stimulation, and signal transduction.  While it is anticipated that most papers will focus on insulin synthesis and secretion, manuscripts investigating other islet hormones are encouraged. Specifically, we are soliciting original high-quality manuscripts that address the integration of different levels of scientific analyses, including molecular/cellular, biochemical, genetic, physiologic, and pathophysiologic in the investigation of this general area.  Studies using cell systems, animals and humans are all welcome for consideration; however, regardless of model system, each manuscript is expected to address mechanism of action at some level. All manuscripts accepted from this Call for Papers will be included in a unique online article collection, which will also include specially commissioned Review articles.

Call for Papers for a Themed Issue of MedChemComm: Chemical Biology for Target Identification and Validation

Guest Editors: Nathanael Gray (Harvard University, USA) and Lyn Jones (Pfizer, Cambridge, USA)

Submission Deadline: 30th September 2013

Submissions are now open for a high-profile themed issue on Chemical Biology for Target Identification and Validation, due for publication in MedChemComm in early 2014. It will receive great exposure and significant promotion.

Scope

Part of MedChemComm’s mission is to publish high level chemistry biology research which enables drug discovery. This special issue will be broad in scope, covering advances in the discovery, development and application of chemical biology to elucidate and validate new therapeutic targets. Relevant topics include (but are not limited to):

the use of –omics and imaging technologies

immunoprecipitation and affinity chromatography to identify novel targets and therapeutic modalities

the creation and development of new techniques to assess target (and off-target) engagement

advances in areas such as chemogenomics, microarrays, yeast three hybrid, RNAi and chem/bioinformatics

New research in MedChemComm is published as Concise Articles. This article type encompasses both Communication and Full Paper styles and is generally between 3 and 7 pages in length, but there is no strict page limit.

Manuscripts can be submitted in any reasonable format using our submission system. Template is not required. Please indicate that it is for the Chemical Biology themed issue in the comments to the editor field. The level of quality of this issue will be high, and all manuscripts will undergo the journal’s normal peer review process.

The deadline for submissions to the themed issue is 30th September 2013, although submissions before this date are of course welcomed.

Call for Manuscripts on Inflammation and Immunity in Organ System Physiology for the American Journal of Physiology—Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology

The American Journal of Physiology—Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology is soliciting submission of original manuscripts and review articles, addressing novel roles for inflammation and immunity in organ system physiology and pathophysiology.

This Call for Papers is in recognition of advances in our understanding of the participation of innate and adaptive immune responses in diverse conditions such as obesity, insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, hypertension, neoplasia, lung disease, and bone biology. Appropriate topics include the role of phagocytes, T cells, and B cells, as well as the effect of cytokines, pattern recognition receptors, and inflammatory signaling molecules in modulation of normal and abnormal organ function. Papers addressing how inflammation and immunity are triggered to perturb organ function are particularly encouraged. These could include but are not limited to those dealing with exercise, aging, sex differences, and/or various cellular stressors (i.e., hypoxia, temperature, etc.) and specific disorders, including obesity, diabetes, cancer, and diseases of the cardiovascular, kidney, respiratory, and central nervous systems. This Call for Papers includes cellular/molecular, biochemical, integrative, comparative, and translational studies.

The Organizing Editor is David Pollock. David G. Harrison from Vanderbilt University will be the Guest Editor for this Call for Papers. Dr. Harrison is an internationally recognized leader in research exploring the role of the immune system in cardiovascular physiology.

Organizing Editor:

David M. Pollock: dpollock@georgiahealth.edu
