Call for Papers Using Massively Parallel Sequencing Technology for The Journal of Pathology

The Journal of Pathology is now soliciting submissions of primary research based on massively parallel sequencing taking advantage of novel insights into the genetic basis of human diseases, including the identification of new genotype-phenotype associations and novel driver mutations, characterisation of patterns of genetic instability, and on the topic of intra-tumour genetic heterogeneity.

Such submissions should report studies the use of massively parallel sequencing technology to address important questions in the pathobiology of disease. Manuscripts should offer new approaches to considering such data, clinically relevant findings and/or functional insights with validation. Timely reviews and perspectives would also be considered.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Journal of Neuropsychology: Cognitive Function in Parkinson’s Disease

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Journal of Neuropsychology: Cognitive Function in Parkinson’s Disease

In the last 10-20 years, there has been a growing body of literature relating to the cognitive impairments associated with Parkinson’s disease, including core cognitive processes such as recognition memory and attention, but more recently aspects of cognition such as prospective memory, decision-making and emotion recognition have also been explored. This research has moved beyond accounts of cognitive impairments in Parkinson’s, with implications for clinical management and real-life functioning for people with Parkinson’s. In addition to these important aspects, understanding the cognitive effects of Parkinson’s can illuminate normal function.

This special issue will comprise both reviews and empirical papers and cover a range of different cognitive processes in Parkinson’s including (but not limited to) reward, decision-making, memory, inhibition, hallucinations and action processing. Bringing together these topics and different approaches to the question of cognition in Parkinson’s will make for a thought-provoking and cutting edge special issue, which will be of interest to both basic scientists and clinicians.

Please send an email expression of interest to jnp@wiley.com, giving a brief outline of your proposed article prior to submission to the special issue. The closing date for submissions will be 30th June 2012.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of Investigative Radiology: Interventional MRI

Investigative Radiology announces a special issue on 'Interventional MRI' scheduled for publication in early 2013. This issue will focus on new technical developments and clinical experience in diagnostic (e.g. biopsy) and therapeutic (e.g. tumor ablation) MR-guided procedures. All organ and disease areas will be considered. Accepted manuscripts will involve either basic or clinical research and will advance our understanding of interventional MR-based procedures as well as promote their clinical applications.

The deadline for submission is June 1, 2012. Papers submitted after this deadline will not be considered. All papers will be subject to peer review by experts in the field and must comply with the Journal's Instructions for Authors.

We look forward to sharing your innovation and discoveries in this exciting field.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of Eurosurveillance: the Molecular Epidemiology of Human Pathogens

Eurosurveillance invites authors to submit papers for a special issue on the molecular epidemiology of human pathogens.

As exemplified in the 2011 outbreak of the Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) O104:H4 strain in Germany, advanced sequencing technologies are being introduced for application in microbiological investigations supporting surveillance and outbreak investigations. In the STEC outbreak, the traditional microbiological methods were used to characterise the outbreak strain for epidemiological investigations, but for the first time, parallel application of advanced technologies enabled the whole genome sequence of multiple isolates of the outbreak strain to be determined just a few days after the outbreak had been detected. While such scientific and technological advances have great potential to increase the resolution and accuracy of microbiological investigations and deepen our understanding of human pathogens and the diseases they cause, various operational issues need to be resolved in order for such advanced techniques to be incorporated into public health practice.

The aim of this special issue is to provide a comprehensive picture of the current thinking on the role and possible opportunities of applying modern molecular microbiology for informing public health action. It follows from the recent consultation organised by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, which initiated discussion on how public health can benefit from the recent advances in molecular microbiology. We invite interested scientists and public health experts to share their findings and views and submit original papers for peer review and possible publication.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

proof-of-principle examples of the use of advanced molecular methods, e.g. for the detection and characterisation of humans pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa) and for understanding infectious disease dynamics;
issues related to the use of advanced molecular data on human pathogens for surveillance and outbreak investigation: future directions, potential limitations, needs and implications for public health.

Deadline for special issue on the molecular epidemiology of human pathogens extended to 30 June 2012

If you would like to submit a paper or ask for more information, please see our instructions for authors regarding article formats http://www.eurosurveillance.org/Public/ForAuthors/ForAuthors.aspx#article and contact the editorial team at eurosurveillance@ecdc.europa.eu.
