Call for Abstracts: 2012 HIV Diagnostics Conference

December 12-14, 2012  Atlanta, Georgia

The 2012 HIV Diagnostics Conference, co-sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), provides an opportunity for clinicians, clinical and public health laboratorians, HIV/AIDS program managers and directors, and industry representatives to review developments in HIV diagnostics, share data and research findings, and establish collaborations. Since its inception in 2005, the HIV Diagnostics Conference has served as an opportunity for those interested in issues related to HIV diagnostic testing to gather and discuss new developments and related prevention and surveillance measures.

At the 2010 HIV Diagnostics Conference, a new HIV-1/2 diagnostic testing algorithm was proposed. The 2012 HIV Diagnostics Conference will provide an opportunity for participants to share their experiences with 4th generation antigen/antibody assays and data generated with this new HIV-1/2 diagnostic testing algorithm. The 2012 conference will be held December 12-14 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, GA. Online registration will open in February. The registration fee is $350. Registration, abstract submission and proceedings from past conferences can be accessed online. A limited number of scholarships are available to provide partial support for potential conference attendees who would otherwise be unable to participate.

A preconference workshop (included in the registration fee) will be held December 11 for interested program and laboratory personnel. Topics to be reviewed include HIV-related test principles, specimen selection and handling, measures of test performance, and understanding test kit product inserts. The HIV Diagnostic Conference Planning Committee actively encourages manufacturers of HIV diagnostic and prognostic assays or devices to participate in our Exhibitor Sessions and to contribute to the scientific discussion throughout the conference.

Abstracts should present research findings addressing one of the following nine topics:

Abstract Catergories

1. 4th Generation HIV-1/HIV-2 Immunoassay Screening
· Performance in populations with different HIV prevalence
· Performance of fully automated random access analyzers and implications for testing strategies

2. HIV Testing Algorithms in the Laboratory
· Overall performance of the 3rd/4th generation immunoassay, HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody differentiation assay and NAAT algorithm
· Use of high throughput assays as the supplemental test after a reactive 4th generation result

· Alternative algorithms for specimens other than blood
· HIV-1 resistance testing

8. Diagnostic Assays under Development
· Serologic

Call for Abstracts: Eleventh International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection

11-15 November 2012 Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

Keeping up to date with developments and new ideas in HIV treatment presents a major challenge to treating physicians, healthcare providers and researchers. Objective scientific assessment of new drug treatments and therapeutic strategies is therefore essential. It will be the aim of the Eleventh International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection to provide a wide-ranging yet accessible forum for such assessment.

The Scientific Programme for Glasgow will again address the use of differing therapeutic strategies in a variety of clinical settings. Alongside treatment strategies, adverse events, resistance and other important sessions within the overall programme, developing world perspectives, paediatric treatment and care, and community-related treatment issues will receive detailed attention. The Congress will again adopt the Pre-Congress Workshop format as introduced at HIV-10, which proved to be a popular session taking place on the opening morning of the Congress.

Abstract submissions are invited from all relevant sources. Specific details on the submission process and subject categories will be provided in January 2012. Online electronic submission will be available. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 16 July 2012.
