The AAGP 2013 conference theme focuses on ensuring that geriatric mental health providers have all of the tools and resources they need to ensure state-of-the art care and the highest quality of life for the older individuals whom we serve. We invite you to submit a proposed session, clinical case presentation, or poster for this dynamic and exciting meeting.

There are many venues at the AAGP Annual Meeting that invite innovative and interactive learning targeted towards clinicians, researchers, and educators. Clinicians and investigators in all arenas of geriatric psychiatry, psychology, neurology, medicine, nursing, social work, and other related disciplines are encouraged to submit abstracts of original work for presentation at the AAGP Annual Meeting. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the 2013 AAGP Annual Meeting Program Committee. It is requested that all program proposals include some content on their applicability to clinical practice using an interdisciplinary team approach in order to address care from the perspective of many healthcare disciplines. The Program Committee encourages the involvement of trainees and early career professionals as session presenters. Please consider including an early career clinician or investigator as part of your presenter panel. Additionally, submitters are encouraged to consider any special patient care needs of minority or underserved populations.

This conference will focus on recent advances in neurodegenerative diseases, ranging from basic science to clinical and pharmaceutical developments, and will highlight current understanding of underlying mechanisms, new research directions, and therapeutic strategies. The conference will span Alzheimer's and other dementias twenty years since formulation of the amyloid cascade hypothesis, Parkinson's disease, prion diseases, as well as interactions and common mechanisms among neurodegenerative diseases. New concepts in any aspect of neurodegeneration/regeneration are, however, welcomed.

Featured will be plenary lectures from leading investigators, oral presentations from selected abstracts, and poster sessions covering each of the topics. Participation of younger scientists is particularly encouraged and there will be ample opportunity for informal discussions to develop new collaborations in an attractive environment on the Riviera Maya.

Call for Papers for a Special Session on Challenges in Neuroengineering at the International Conference on Neural Computation Theory and Applications - NCTA 2012

05 - 07 October, 2012 - Barcelona, Spain

In conjunction with the International Conference on Neural Computation Theory and Applications - NCTA 2012

Neuroengineering is a discipline within biomedical engineering. This interdisciplinary approach combines principles from machine learning, signal processing theory, and computational neuroscience applied to problems in basic and clinical neuroscience.

The ultimate goal of neuroengineering is a technological revolution, where machines would interact in real-time with the brain. Machines and brains could interface, enabling normal function in cases of injury or disease, brain monitoring and/or medical rehabilitation of brain disorders.

Much current research in neuroengineering is focused on understanding the coding and processing of information in the sensory and motor systems, quantifying how this processing is altered in the pathological state, and how it can be manipulated through interactions with artificial devices including brain-computer interfaces and neuroprosthetics.

Our brains are buzzing with electrical activity moving in and out of neural cells, sending electrical impulses along their axons, and exchanging chemical messages. Neural signals allow us to observe neuronal activity in real time.

Our topics cover all imaging or neural signal techniques (cellular-level recording, EEG, MRI/fMRI, PET, fNIRS, chemical or optical recording, etc.) of neuroengineering such as, but not limited to:

- computational neuroscience
- experimental neuroscience
- clinical neurology
- electrical engineering and signal processing of living neural tissue
- robotics and cybernetics
- neural tissue engineering
- materials science, and nanotechnology.

Call for Abstracts: 2nd International Symposium on Neurorehabilitation

Call for Abstracts: 2nd International Symposium on Neurorehabilitation

October 18-19, 2012 Valencia, Spain

Abstract submission deadline: August 5, 2012

The incidence of acquired brain injuries (ABIs) and other neurological conditions represents an increasing healthcare problem worldwide.

The complexity of these pathologies makes a multidisciplinary treatment approach necessary which takes as a starting point the important advances that are being made in information and communication technologies (ICTs), virtual reality or robotics. At the same time, neurorehabilitation can also benefit from research in more experimental (biochemical, genetics, functionals, etc.) and clinical (pharmacological, early prevention, etc.) areas. We feel that the Symposium will be an excellent meeting point for professionals and researchers that wish to establish synergies among their respective disciplines which could lead to innovative approaches, and important advances, in neurorehabilitation research.

It has now been just over two years since we organized the “I International Symposium on Neurorehabilitation: From basics to future”. In that first edition, more than 400 delegates from 30 different countries joined us to make the Symposium a success. But, most importantly, the Symposium served as a meeting point for many researchers and professionals.

The Conselleria de Sanitat, the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (Prince Felipe Research Centre) and the Fundación Instituto Valenciano de Neurorrehabilitación (FIVAN) are collaborating to organize this second edition. Basic neuroscience, clinical neurorehabilitation and neurotechnology will come together once again in 2012 with the objective of improving healthcare models and promoting the use of technology in neurorehabilitation. All of this, for the benefit of our patients. For three days, world-renowned experts will review the current state and the latest advances made in the field of Neurorehabilitation.

Participants are invited to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentation for consideration by the Scientific Committee.

Abstracts should be submitted in English no later than Sunday, August 5, 2012, indicating your preference for oral or poster presentation and one of the following categories:

. Basics
. Plasticity
. Neuroimage
. Virtual rehabilitation
. Cognitive rehabilitation
. Assessment
. Behaviour
. Motor rehabilitation

The abstracts must be submitted through the conference website.
