October 9, 2012 Lyon, France

Aim of the course

This is an educational program created to encourage the dissemination of scientific knowledge among nurses working in the field of multiple sclerosis (MS). Disease management in research and clinical practice, with a special emphasis on the nurses’ crucial role, will be reviewed. Management of main signs and symptoms of the disease, such as spasticity, pain, psychosocial distress, cognitive impairment and genitourinary problems will be addressed both from the physician and nurse perspective.

Learning objectives

This course will offer to participants:

Updates on etiologic factors and pathogenetic mechanisms
An overview of diagnostic tools used in patient screening and follow-up
A review of research methodology in MS
Criteria to optimize treatment administration

Target audience

Nurses involved in the treatment of persons with multiple sclerosis.

Poster submissions

Serono Symposia International Foundation together with the MS Nurse Steering Committee invites the submission of posters.

Poster abstract submission deadline: June 15, 2012

Serono Symposia International Foundation and the Workshop moderators - Mrs Eija Luoto and Mrs Amy Perrin Ross - will review the submitted abstracts and select the best posters to be presented during the 14th MS Nurse Workshop Poster Session and for publication on the abstract book to be distributed on-site to all participants.

Accepted poster presentations will be made available on the www.seronosymposia.org website after the workshop.

Poster format guidelines

Posters must be written in English and must include the title of the work, the author’s names, the name of the institution, the city and country.

Posters should be structured with an informative and short “Introduction”, “Material and Methods”, “Results” and “Conclusions”.

Use font size 14, Arial font type and line spacing 1.5.

Accepted posters should be printed in A1 (height: 84 cm, width: 59,4 cm).

Call for Abstracts: 2012 Meeting of the International Society of Hydrocephalus and CSF Disorders

The 2012 meeting of the International Society of Hydrocephalus and CSF Disorders (ISHCSF) will be held in Kyoto, Japan from October 19 to 22, 2012 (Hydrocephalus 2012, Kyoto).

Deadline of ‘Abstract Submission’ and ‘Abstract Modification’: June 29, 2012

This meeting will present the latest advances in the clinical care of and research in hydrocephalus and CSF disorders. Through this meeting, we expect to accomplish the ISHCSF mission of pursuing both clinical and basic research of CSF circulation and its related disorders and thereby promoting the best possible care for patients with these disorders.

There has been nearly a hundred-year of CSF research history since the pioneering work of Harvey Cushing. Research has produced many achievements in this field, but unsolved problems remain and challenge us to take the next step toward solving them.

Of course, another purpose of this meeting is to give all participants the opportunity to communicate, discuss freely, and share their recent progress in this field. We warmly welcome all participants and their families from all over the world.

Topics are listed below. Any scientific abstracts in the field of CSF and hydrocephalus are welcome. Accepted papers will be presented. You may select topics and sessions, but the organizing committee will determine the acceptance, type of presentation and session after reviewing all abstracts.

Call for Abstracts: Mathematical and Computational Medicine Conference 2012

Saturday December 1 2012 - Wednesday December 5 2012 Xcaret, Mexico

The purpose of the Zing Conference on Mathematical and Computational Medicine is to bring together eminent scholars with expertise in various fields of mathematical and computational medicine, as well as experimentalists and medical doctors interested in application of computational methods in clinical studies. The mathematical and computational medicine is now one of the most important and rapidly growing fields of modern medicine, and will become even more important in nearest future, when the cost of individual human gene sequencing becomes affordable for mass-scale clinical use (The $1000 Human Genome). New sequencing techniques, such as RNA-Seq produce enormous amount of information on the transcriptome in healthy and diseased cells, that need a development of new mathematical and computational methods to extract the most important medical information. The scope of the proposed Zing Conference will cover many different fields mathematical and computational medicine and biomedical informatics, such as genetics, genomics, epigenetics, and epigenomics of various diseases including mental and learning disorders, autism, and somatic diseases, with a special emphasis on cancer, protein misfolding disorders related to amyloid formation in neurogenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease), gene regulation, biomarker development, computer aided drug development, computational pharmacodynamics, computational immunology, systems biology and its extension to systems medicine, machine learning methods in application to biomedical data, applicability of computational methods in personalized medicine, and regenerative medicine. A special session will be devoted to errors in measurements of biomedical data and statistical evidence-based medicine.

Call for Abstracts: Neurodegeneration Conference 2012

Tuesday November 27 2012 - Saturday December 1 2012 Xcaret Mexico

Talk abstract deadline: Friday June 29 2012

Poster abstract deadline: Thursday September 27 2012

This conference will focus on recent advances in neurodegenerative diseases, ranging from basic science to clinical and pharmaceutical developments, and will highlight current understanding of underlying mechanisms, new research directions, and therapeutic strategies. The conference will span Alzheimer's and other dementias twenty years since formulation of the amyloid cascade hypothesis, Parkinson's disease, prion diseases, as well as interactions and common mechanisms among neurodegenerative diseases. New concepts in any aspect of neurodegeneration/regeneration are, however, welcomed.

Featured will be plenary lectures from leading investigators, oral presentations from selected abstracts, and poster sessions covering each of the topics. Participation of younger scientists is particularly encouraged and there will be ample opportunity for informal discussions to develop new collaborations in an attractive environment on the Riviera Maya.
