Age-related diseases and disabilities, such as cancer, diabetes, and neuronal degeneration, pose an ever increasing social and economic burden worldwide. Fortunately, the last decades have witnessed dramatic progress in our understanding of the aging process. Genetic studies in particular have helped elucidate some of the molecular pathways that regulate the aging and offered new insights into the treatment of age-related diseases. However, there is still much to be learned and further progress in addressing the unique challenges of the aging population will require new insights and novel approaches. In order to accelerate the discovery process, this Keystone Symposia meeting will cover essential aspects of the aging processes, including cell signaling pathways, DNA stability, protein homeostasis, stem cells and cellular senescence. Each plenary session will emphasize innovative findings from a variety of models in basic research areas and link them to age-related disease and frailty. The ultimate goal is to provide an opportunity for attendees to communicate and promote an integrated understanding of aging and age-related diseases. The program for this meeting is highly likely to attract a wide variety of investigators, many of whom might not otherwise interact.

Call for Papers: International Conference on Biomolecular Engineering

The 2013 ICBE will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida January 13-16, 2013

ICBE brings together researchers who are using quantitative approaches to advance the understanding and application of molecular biology. These scientists, engineers, and professionals are contributing to the development of analytical, diagnostic, and therapeutic strategies that are directly relevant to public health. The conference, co-chaired by Ali Khademhosseini (Harvard University) and Kristala Prather (MIT) will stimulate efforts to integrate these approaches across the scales of biological complexity in a single-track Gordon-style conference format that includes hotel accommodations and most meals.

Papers will be accepted on the topics of:

Biomolecular Engineering for Cell and Tissue Engineering
Biophysical and Microscale Analyses of Molecular and Cellular Function
Experimental & Computational Tools for Engineering Biomolecules
Interface of Bionanotechnology and Biomolecules
Metabolic Pathway Engineering
Protein Engineering
Synthetic Biology

Abstracts of approximately 300 words should be submitted no later than November 1, 2012. The abstract should include both the significance of the research as well as results that will be discussed in order to allow a scientific assessment of the work by the organizers. To submit a paper, visit http://aiche.confex.com/aiche/12icbe/cfp.cgi.

Tuesday, November 6 through Saturday, November 10, 2012 San Francisco, California

The receipt deadline for new abstract submission is June 4, 2012 at 8:00 pm (US EDT).

The world's top scientists and clinicians in the human genetics field will gather to present their latest research findings at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), which will be held on November 6-10, 2012, in San Francisco, CA (http://www.ashg.org/2012meeting). ASHG is the primary professional membership organization for human genetics specialists worldwide, representing nearly 8,000 researchers, academicians, clinicians, genetic counselors, nurses, and others with a special interest in this area (http://www.ashg.org).

The ASHG Annual Meeting continues to be the largest human genetics meeting in the world, attracting more than 7,000 scientific participants each year. The ASHG 2012 Meeting will provide attendees with the latest information about cutting-edge developments in human genetics and genomics research. In addition, nearly 250 U.S. and international exhibitors at this year's ASHG Exhibitor Trade Show will offer an unprecedented opportunity to view the latest advances in genetics-related products and services derived, in part, from work presented at previous ASHG meetings.

Topics to be addressed in the scientific program for the ASHG 2012 Meeting will include: gene discovery in human genetics; new insights and challenges from next generation sequencing; advances in medical genetics and translation/applications in clinical care; progress in gene therapy; personalized medicine; cancer genetics; advances in non-invasive prenatal diagnosis; revelations about human alleles from studies of model organisms; implications of population genetic studies; modeling in statistical genetics; data centralization and its implications for our field; ethical, legal and social implications of genomics; changes in genetics education; and much more.
