Call for Abstracts: World Health Summit

The M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centres and Medical Universities is pleased to invite submission of abstracts for presentation at its upcoming 4th World Health Summit. The World Health Summit is one of the world’s foremost gatherings of leaders from academia, politics, industry and civil society to develop joint strategies and take action to address key challenges in medical research, global health and health care delivery with the aim of shaping the political, academic and social agendas. This year´s World Health Summit “Research for Health and Sustainable Development” will be held in Berlin from October 21st to 24th, 2012.

The M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centres and Medical Universities was officially founded in 2009, as a medical and scientific forum of excellence on the occasion of the 1st World Health Summit in Berlin. It is composed of a network of prestigious medical institutions dealing with scientific, political, and economic issues related to medicine and global health. The M8 Alliance acts as a permanent platform for framing future considerations of global medical development and health challenges. It is the M8’s vision to harness academic excellence to improve global health.

The New Voices in Global Health (NVGH) is a competitive abstract submission and selection programme designed to highlight important research, policy and advocacy initiatives of new and future leaders in global health, and empower participants with global health advocacy skills.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to make a presentation at the World Health Summit 2012. The accepted researchers will participate in either the NVGH forum session or the NVGH poster presentation session. Selected abstracts will be published in a special booklet available at the World Health Summit and on The Lancet´s website.

Issues addressed must be relevant, reflect current challenges, show originality and will spark the interest of conference participants and the readers of The Lancet. Topics of particular interest would be those linked to the summit’s main themes:

Research using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods may be submitted. Abstracts should be submitted online no later than June 15, 2012. An expert committee composed of M8 Alliance members and Lancet editors will review the abstracts after peer review. Participants will be informed of the acceptance of their abstracts for presentation at the World Health Summit at the end of July 2012. (Authors of selected abstracts should submit a 10-minute-presentation / or poster by email no later than September 30, 2012. Deadlines will be strictly adhered to.)

• The New Voices in Global Health Forum is open to all. Abstracts should address current issues with a special focus on the main themes of this year’s World Health Summit.

Call for Papers: International Telecommunication Union Kaleidoscope 2013 Building Sustainable Communities Academic Conference

22–24 April 2013, Kyoto, Japan

Kaleidoscope 2013 Building Sustainable Communities is the fifth in a series of peer-reviewed academic conferences organized
by ITU that brings together a wide range of views from universities, industry and research institutions of different fields. The aim of Kaleidoscope conferences is to identify emerging developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) at an early stage to generate successful products and services through the development of international and open standards.

Future technologies should be designed to enhance the quality of human life. Kaleidoscope 2013 will, therefore, highlight multidisciplinary aspects of future ICTs including future services and applications demand as well as socio-economic, cultural, ethical, legal, and sustainable development policy aspects of communities of the future.

ICTs can be used as a catalyst for transforming life to meet the challenges of the new millennium, including global economic and
financial crises, high unemployment rates, accessibility issues, global diseases, food availability and distribution, climate change,
environmental disasters, energy consumption, transport systems, safety, security, and welfare.

Sustainable communities will combine human-oriented technologies and human values.

Besides technical issues, building sustainable communities also raises ethical concerns such as responsibility for future generations and for the environment, as well as for data and information privacy. Therefore, an improved understanding of technology, its suitable application, and a high consideration of its potential consequences are necessary.

To address these issues, and for a co-evolution of technology and sustainable communities, standards are indispensable. Developing these standards will require concerted global efforts by inter-sectoral stakeholders. This conference will help to further such collaborations.

Building Sustainable Communities is calling for original academic papers offering innovative and bold approaches in research
and development to build smart, ethical, and sustainable communities.

Submission of papers
Prospective authors, from countries that are Members of ITU, are invited to submit complete, original papers with a maximum
length of 4,500 words within eight pages including summary and references, using the template available on the event website.
Paper proposals will be evaluated according to content, originality, clarity, relevance to the conference’s theme and, in particular, significance to future standards.

The Department of Health Research and Policy, The Centers for Primary Care and Outcomes Research and Health Policy and The Graduate School of Business’ Program in Healthcare Innovation at Stanford University are pleased to host the 23rd Annual Health Economics Conference (AHEC).

We welcome submissions which build on the theme of innovation from a variety of perspectives including, but not limited to, insurance and provider markets, information and clinical technologies, behavioral interventions, and the interaction between regulation and innovation. While we will prioritize papers within the theme, submissions from all areas of health economics are also welcome. The presentation format will be a short overview of the paper from the researcher, a presentation from a discussant, and then audience discussion and feedback.

The conference will also include an interactive discussion with a panel of industry executives representing innovative companies from a variety of health care sectors.

AHEC is an invitation-only conference with attendance restricted to people actively participating as presenters or discussants.

Present a Paper

A panel of applied micro-economists will select up to 12 papers for presentation at AHEC, with a slight preference given to junior faculty; we also welcome submissions from doctoral students. Full papers are required in advance of the meeting. If you would like to present at AHEC, please submit a completed paper or an extended abstract (1 to 2 pages) no later than June 15. Send your submission to ahec2012su@stanford.edu please put “AHEC submission” in the subject line.

If you would like to participate as a discussant, send an e-mail to ahec2012su@stanford.edu indicating your interest by June 15 please put AHEC discussant” in the subject line.

AHEC follows a “you pay your way, we pay your stay” model. A grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality covers lodging, while you are responsible for travel costs to and from Stanford, California.

The conference will run from approximately 1:00 p.m. on September 27 through 4:30 p.m. on September 28, 2012.

Abstract Format
1. 15-minute oral presentations (10 minutes presentation + 5 minutes for questions).

2. 5 minute oral poster presentations (3 minutes for presentation + 2 minutes for questions).

Authors may choose among the following abstract formats:

- Standard format (Introduction and objectives, Method(s), Results and Conclusion).

- Qualitative Research Studies (Introduction, Method(s), Findings and discussion, Recommendations and References)

- Experiential & Practice Samples (Introduction, Action. Outcome, Discussion, Recommendations and References).

- Historical Survey (Introduction, Approach, Findings and discussions and References).

Abstracts Submission & Evaluation Criteria
- Abstracts should be submitted for poster and podium presentations.

- All abstracts must be submitted online at www.africasexuality.org/abstract/openconf.php

- Abstracts can be submitted in English, French or Portuguese.

- Abstracts will be printed as submitted. It is the author’s responsibility to submit the abstract in the correct order with no spelling or grammar errors.

- Abstracts that are not received in the proper format will not be considered for review by the Scientific Committee.

- The Abstract should include a summary of not more than 200 words and an extended abstract of 2-3 pages (Arial font 11, spacing 1.5).

- The abstract should provide as much relevant information as possible and should follow the one of the 4 formats highlighted above.

- The title should be in capital letters.

- For multiple submissions, consistency in authors’ names should be maintained to avoid duplication in the Author index of the final Program.

- The presenting author’s name should be listed first and underlined.

- Authors must indicate the name of the funders (if any) of research being presented.

- Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest for their research.

- PowerPoint presentations using a PC data projector will be the standard method of visual data presentation.

- Authors should indicate whether they prefer a podium or poster presentation.

- The final decision on the presentation format will be made by the Scientific Committee.

- Receipt of all abstracts will be acknowledged by e-mail.

- All accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference Proceedings, online and may be reproduced in relevant scientific journals.

- Submitted Abstracts will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

The National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) is seeking presentation proposals for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday November 12-14, 2012 for the 17th Annual Conference at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.

The National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) is a national, non-profit, membership organization of purchaser-led health care coalitions. NBCH and its members are dedicated to value-based purchasing of health care services through the collective action of public and private purchasers. NBCH seeks to accelerate the nation's progress towards safe, efficient, high-quality health care and the improved health status of the American population.

The Annual Conferenceis NBCH’s premier educational event bringing together NBCH coalition members, coalition employer members as well as other health care stakeholders. The conference reinforces NBCH’s position as a national opinion leader for value based purchasing and leading educator for public and private health care purchasers.

Speaking Opportunities
Speakers will be selected for plenary and breakout sessions. All presentations will be chosen based on merit, appeal, relevance, and innovation. The Annual Conference helps attendees learn best practices, innovations and successful real-life solutions from the experts on improving health, transforming health care, community by community.

Breakout Session Program Standards

Deadlines:

You must submit proposal forms no later than COB May 31, 2012.
If selected, you must agree to submit all final presenters’ names, bios, titles, and company affiliations by August 5, 2012.
If accepted, you must submit all PowerPoint presentations for your session by September 23, 2012 for review and approval.

Presentation Content Requirements:

The committee will select proposals relevant to the Conference theme
The session should include at least one employer speaker. The more your proposal presents employer and/or community results and involvement, the more favorably your presentation will be considered
Your proposed program must be relevant to an employer focus. We prefer employer or community best practices, practical solutions and/or case studies.

Instructions for submission
To be considered, you must complete the Call-For-Presentations Submission Form and send to Susan Dorsey (sdorsey@nbch.org) by May 31, 2012. Unless we tell you otherwise, the program committee will make final decisions by July 29, 2012, and we will inform you of the results shortly thereafter.
