Call for Abstracts: International Conference on Natural Products and Health--NPH 2013

September 5-7, 2013 School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

NPH 2013 aims to bring together scientists and clinicians from academia, industry, hospitals and government laboratories to present new results and identify future research directions and therapeutic targets in natural products, drug discovery and medicine. The conference will be taking place on September 5-7, 2013 at the School of Biological Sciences (SBS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore.

With its unique focus and format, the conference provides participants updated information on the most recent and exciting developments in the field of natural products and health. It will examine current practices and advances of promising new generation of small molecules, peptides and protein biologics from plants and animals. Their impact on western and eastern medicine and healthcare will also be determined in the conference.

Students and researchers are encouraged to attend and submit posters or abstracts, a number of which will also be selected for poster presentation or talks.

The NPH2013 is designed to stimulate the creation, discussion and exploration of innovative and inspirational research topics in food science, drug discovery, medicine, natural products and health.

The NPH2013 organizing committee would like to invite prospective authors to submit their abstracts for oral or poster presentation based on but not limited to the following outlined themes in the conference program.

Call for Poster Abstracts: The Microbiome in Health, Disease, and Therapeutics: Bugs, Guts and Drugs

Friday, October 4, 2013 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM The New York Academy of Sciences New York, New York

Presented by the Biochemical Pharmacology Discussion Group

The host of microorganisms inhabiting the human body, or microbiome, plays essential roles in both health and the pathogenesis and resolution of disease. Symbioses between humans and the microbiome influence broad aspects of human biology including nutrition, immune function, and even brain development. Altered microbial community profiles are associated with a variety of chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, allergic conditions, obesity, and psychiatric and neurological disorders. The microbiome influences therapeutic interventions: metabolism of drugs by both intestinal bacteria and enterocytes, leading to systemic absorption may provide valuable insights into pre-systemic drug metabolism, delivery, and toxicity. A better understanding of the metabolic pathways may aid in drug development and toxicity evaluation processes. The microbiome itself may be a target of, or tool for new therapeutic strategies for diseases as diverse as irritable bowel syndrome, and Parkinson’s disease. This symposium reviews the basic biology of the human microbiome symbiosis and its systemic effects, the impact of the gut microbiome on drug metabolism, the opportunities offered by the microbiome for new drug development, and the essential role played by the microbiome in a variety of disease states.

The deadline for poster abstract submission is Friday, August 23, 2013. Select poster abstracts will be chosen for short oral presentations. For complete abstract submission instructions, please send an email to microbiome2013@nyas.org with "Abstract Information" in the subject line. There is no need to type a message; instructions will be forwarded automatically. Please call 212.298.8620 with any questions.

Call for Papers: Global Health 2013, The Second International Conference on Global Health Challenges

November 17 - 22, 2013 - Lisbon, Portugal

Submission deadline (full paper): June 26, 2013

Recent advances in technology and computational science influenced a large spectrum of branches in approaching population health. Despite significant progresses, many challenges exist, including health informatics, cross-country platforms interoperability, system and laws harmonization, protection of health data, practical solutions, accessibility to health services, and many others. Along with technological progress, personalized medicine, ambient assistance and pervasive health complement patient needs. A combination of classical and information-driven approach is developing now, where diagnosis systems, data protection mechanisms, remote assistance and hospital-processes are converging.

GLOBAL HEALTH 2013 takes a global perspective on population health, from national to cross-country approaches, multiplatform technologies, from drug design to medicine accessibility, everything under mobile, ubiquitous, and personalized characteristics of new age population.

We solicit both academic, research, and industrial contributions. We welcome technical papers presenting research and practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, such as those being discussed in the standard fora or in industry consortia, survey papers addressing the key problems and solutions on any of the above topics short papers on work in progress, and panel proposals.

Industrial presentations are not subject to the format and content constraints of regular submissions. We expect short and long presentations that express industrial position and status.

Tutorials on specific related topics and panels on challenging areas are encouraged.

The topics suggested by the conference can be discussed in term of concepts, state of the art, research, standards, implementations, running experiments, applications, and industrial case studies. Authors are invited to submit complete unpublished papers, which are not under review in any other conference or journal in the following, but not limited to, topic areas.

All topics and submission formats are open to both research and industry contributions.
